Video editing program for Windows

Right now I use that Windows Live Movie Maker crap that comes with Windows Live Essentials, and I hate it. I was looking at Vegas Pro, but it's way too expensive. The most I'd be willing to pay is anywhere from $50-75 USD. I need all the functionality that WLMM has (like transitions, video mutes, all that good crap), and the equalizer? like what's in the video.

umm lightworks is free and its really quite good once you learn it. But it has a HUGE learning curve and takes some time.

How hard is it at first?

I tried it and it was pretty interesting and the tutorials are EXTREMELY useful. Try it and see if you like it, if not then your gonna have to pay some money. But I dont think you can add animations

if you're a student the whole CC suite is only $20 a month

Seems easy enough. I've screwed around with Final Cut Pro before, and it was reasonable.

My guess is, that his PC was causing that. I don't have any Audio issues.

Could you link which Version you mean? The Vegas I know is super expensive or do you mean the Movie Edition?
