What bike are you on? My R125 sits at 9K revs for 70MPH. 60 is 7.5K, 65 is 8K.

Wouldn't want to stay at 70 for too long as I feel it puts too much stress on the bike, so I vary it between 60-70.

@Real_PhillBert Does your neck hurt after a 20-30 min ride on your SV on the highway? Do you get used to it after a while?

Not at all. Some people complain about bikes that don't have wind protection but it has really never bothered me.

But nicer helmets can make a very big difference. I have noticed that I am a lot less fatigued after long rides when I stopped buying cheap helmets. I have noticed that many of the less expensive helmets have quite a bit more drag in the wind than some of the nicer offerings. You really dont have to spend a fortune on a helmet (Arai), but a $50 helmet is probably not going to do you any favors.

Maybe it's the wind that's causing me trouble then. Every time I ride we tend to have 10MPH winds. I'm trying to figure out why I get so much wind resistance or if its those gusts that are really getting to me. My helmet is a BELL Vortex which is an entry level helmet to my knowledge, but definitely not a cheap one since it retails for roughly $180 and has some premium features out the gate. I find it funny that you have a naked bike yet I have a bike with full fairings and experience it more.

I'm so confused haha.

Your helmet is of good quality so I would bet that is not the issue.

Sometimes the short windscreens like on your FZ can direct the wind directly to your head and neck, this can magnify the issue quite a bit.

The more time you spend in the saddle the stronger your neck will get and the less you will notice it. I would bet you will notice it less and less as time goes on. :)

That's what I'm thinking... When I tuck about halfway there is a significant difference but I can only ride like that for so long. I looked into a sport touring windscreen but those things are realllllly reallllly ugly on my bike. I'd rather deal with the wind resistance than reduced aesthetics on the bike. If it was a super sport I'd put one on there without hesitation.

Thanks for all of your wisdom so far. I hope I'm not annoying you lol.

I have a 1998 Suzuki GSXR 750.

I bought it with a blown motor, and since then ive done a Little WOrk ;)

jammed in a 2004 GSXR 1000 engine, lightened it by 60lbs dyno run at 160 hp and a +20 shot of No2

lots of one off parts milled and machined by me.

I'd take that front fairing/bellypan off and go for a cafe racer look but that's just me. That could be a really nice cafe racer depending on the direction you take with it.

Ordered some things for my 600 mi service.

  • 10w40 Castrol full synthetic oil
  • K&N oil filter
  • CHN rear stand
  • box of latex gloves (100/box)
  • 3x spray bottles
  • drain pan
  • kerosene
  • dupont teflon aerosol spray
  • funnel
  • grunge brush

This is super exciting. I've never done my own work on anything automotive before maintenance wise so this should be a fun experience. All that's needed is an oil change and chain cleaning. Paid $198.29 all together shipped via 2-day free shipping Prime from Amazon. It would have cost more if I took it to the dealer.

I'm at a little over 400 mi on my odometer so I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to change the oil early.

Any first timer tips are welcome. I plan to do all of my own servicing to my bike unless I don't have the tools or don't trust myself.

Good taste regarding the streetfighter. Every time I see a custom one it makes my day because they're so rare here. It's a sight to see among all of the Harley's and Japanese supersports.

Are you a relatively tall person? I'd imagine those would be exhausting on any ride lasting more than 25 min unless you're not 6'2" or thereabouts.

Yeah I am. They are about eye level for me. My dad who is shorter than I am can hardly reach them when they are straight none the less when they are turned.

Danmoto exhaust ordered for my YZF-R125 :)

Also booked my A1 test for the end of May. Decided to pay £50 extra and take it on one of the test centre's bikes. I get to choose between a Van Van or YBR125. What would you prefer?

I'd go for the YBR. Only because I hate the Van Van.

Also, good luck with the test, how much is it costing you total? £100ish?
