Since test season/craze is about to start for me (one test this weeks, then 3 tests/week for 2 weeks then 2 tests in a week) I've started studying for some of these tests and it got me wondering, what studying methods/techniques do you use/used?

I personally like to listen to instrumental while I study and I study like this: 10 minutes of studying, 10 minute break, 20 minutes of studying, 10 minute break, 30 minutes of studying, 10 minute break, 40 minutes of studying, 10 minute break, and so long. To study I read the notes I took in class and my book, then I sum them up and condense them all into a group of written notes, then the day before the test I read them and do exercises/ask questions to myself.

I have visual memory but when i do need to do hard study it must be dead quiet.I can focus even where there's a lot of noise but being able to hear my myself in a dead quiet environment will help me memorize thing twice as fast

I alternate between reading out loud and just reading. It seems to help. And taking notes

And if im studying for a test i try to commit all the relevant information to a certain muscle movement.

Mostly by tapping my fingertips in order with my thumb in quick succession. If i do that during the test afterwards i can usually bring up some of the relevant information

For facts, rote memorization.  That's how I learned twas the night before christmas during a car ride, go over and over reaching a bit farther, and start over when you mess up.

For math/physics problems.  Keep, solving, problems, over and over.  You want to solve so many problems that the complex thinking is no longer needed, it is mere background activity at that point.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

Math/physics is pretty much just problem solving, you can't really memorize every single solution to every single problem.

Sure, if you memorize one and you use the same solution for every problem of that sort you'll get it right, that's how it works, right?

Right. The solution is usually harder than the problem once you get to calculus and past. And usually you have a day or two to learn and memorize the shit.

Read lecture notes when I get them.

Read them again a couple of days later, and then copy them up onto my Surface 3. (handwritten, helps me remember it more)

Read through the notes again a couple days later.

Then when I hit exam time, read through, and condense all the info down into more condensed pages of hand written notes, one section for each topic.

If its an open book exam, make a contents page for the notes and make it comprehensive.

When I'm copying up notes I just listen to what ever and take breaks when I feel like it.

For exams I stick on some more calm music, usually classical or calm game music (think FTL etc).

I think the act of reading my notes after the lecture, and then again really helps me. Also taking the time to copy it up into handwritten helps, atleast for me.

I'd also be interested to see what level of education the people who claim to do no work are in.

I breezed through GCSEs(16yrs old~), but Alevels I had to start working, and if I did that at Uni I'd fail so quickly. I went into my Alevels with the same attitude and got a bunch of Cs and realised I needed to work and managed to pull it back to get into my 1st choice Uni.

I do this thing where I just go to lectures, show up for the exam and answer the questions then leave. Only failed once so far, just retook and job was a good'un, still averaged a 2:1 for the year. Works for me 93.75% of the time, every time.

I didn't really study untill I reached 7th grade, it doesn't really matter what grades I have up until 10th grade but if I study just a little bit more now then I don't need to be super stressed out when something comes up again and it matters.

Yeah its a decent attitude.

First year of uni means basically nothing, its just a ground to get everyone to the same level.

I still worked my ass of, but now I'm used to working at this level and know how I personally like to study, So I'd say its worth it.

I have mates who are now having to learn how to do all that, and the work means something and is harder.
