Confirmed: HP is splitting into two separate companies

PillowSmoke

Hp announced today it would be splitting its company in two. The iconic technology firm will be separated into a consumer-focused PC and printer company, called HP Inc, and a business-centered one, called Hewlett-Packard Enterprise.

Meg Whitman, who has been chief executive of HP since September 2011, will take the helm at Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, with Pat Russo becoming chairman of the Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Board. Dion Weisler, previously Executive Vice President of HP’s Printing and Personal Systems, will be promoted to president and chief executive of HP Inc. Whitman will be the chairman of the HP Inc board, thereby retaining influence in both businesses.

HP expects to complete the split before the end of the 2015 fiscal year and says shareholders will automatically own shares in both companies. Whitman said the move emphasised HP’s commitment to its five-year turnaround plan.

“It will provide each new company with the independence, focus, financial resources, and flexibility they need to adapt quickly to market and customer dynamics,” she added. “By transitioning now from one HP to two new companies, created out of our successful turnaround efforts, we will be in an even better position to compete in the market, support our customers and partners, and deliver maximum value to our shareholders.”

Mmmh. That way they can discard one side of the company if it under-performs without rubbishing the other.

That seems like a good idea, HP has been slacking in the laptop department for a while now.

The shift shouldn't make too much of a difference on the consumer side of things since they kept the name... The company also gets to at least keep half of itself if one side was to fail... Still, there might be some backlash with the employees...

Sad to see such things happening to well-known brands like HP and Sony...

HP is planning to split into two "companies" :HP Inc for Printers and Computers and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise for suits.  This seems very interesting on the fact that HP is mainly a consumer based company and I'm glad to see HP is stepping into the Enterprise Professionalism

Interesting, I'm pretty sure they already had a very strong Enterprise presence though.

The first part of the company is based off of a ripoff... No problem.
