Yes it can. It will just take a bit longer to render than an i7, but it still does everything an i7 can.

Not true, just need a bit more patience.

 

But if you're looking at the i5 price class, have a look at the Xeon E3-1230 v3 or 1231 V3, which is essentially a hyperthreaded quad core (i7 like) for the price of an i5, but without integrated graphics.

At gaming it's kind of similar (something 2 fps slower than) to an i5 but in rendering/editing the extra logical cores will come in handy.
