980 most likely for games

the Titan is almost a workstation card as it has double-point floating precision

also, Maxwell is much more efficient and a decent bit more powerful than Kepler

Expect a Maxwell-based Titan type card some time though

Whatever resolution you are running at, I'm certain two 980's will handle it much better over a titan (vram is overrated). Titan isn't all gaming or all that new) In.fact, I'd recommend a single 980 over a titan.

980 is faster than a GTX Titan (non-black)

And you won't ever need 6GB of ram running 1 screen.

Dual 980s will CRUSH a single Titan black for anything but a double precision workload (pro stuff, not for gaming)

If Linus says it, it must be true.

one 980 is faster than a titan whilst using less power + running quieter + cooler and it's significantly cheaper, two 980's will walk all over a titan anyday.

Dual 980s easily.

It would be nice to own a titan though - just sounds fancier.

2 980's. If  your budget is 1k, seems like the best choice. Vram makes a world of difference, just depends on the game. Maxing out 6 gigs on one screen is just as easy.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz

Spare RIg Lian Li O11 AIR MINI, I7 4790K, Asus Maximus VI Extreme, G.Skill Ares 2400 32Gb, EVGA 1080ti, 1080sc 1070sc & 1060 SSC, EVGA 850GA, Acer KG251Q 1920x1080@240hz

A single 980 is pretty much on par with a titan, let alone two.

Don't fall for nvidia marketing jargon "muh vram and precishun"

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it
