Found this video a while ago, but forgot to share it here:

 

 

Basically it will play continuous tone from 20kHz to 4kHz, along with displayed frequency number. Press pause (usually just click on the screen) as soon as you hear something, and you can see the border frequency of your hearing. Frequency hearing borders varies between individuals, and ages, so test yours, just for fun. Most likely you'll be shocked by the result (like me) :)

 

Use good quality and reliable headphones to make sure it can reproduce those high pitches. 

 

The other point of this hearing test is: I've seen a few topics saying something like, 'I want this headphone, because it can go up to 35kHz, unlike those headphone'. Well, even if it could reproduce 35kHz consistently (which I doubt any headphones could, but just say that it could), what good is it, when you can only hear up to 15kHz (for example)?

Indeed, very high pitches on YT are usually compression artifacts.

Also, this test assumes a flat FR-response from the headset.

16 kHz. I did also see check the sound as the video played and I saw a tiny jump in the volume around 18-19k which went back down to 0 instantly.

I don't like Youtube for this. There are better websites for hearing tests. There was one with other tests like 16bit vs 8bit and lots of other audio tests. Too lazy to link right now. Based on memory my hearing goes 20hz to 16khz. My high-pitched hearing has been a little low as far as I can remember, like at 1st grade. It hasn't gotten worse and I don't listen to music really loud. It's just kindda there.

Try playing the video with foobar (don't ask how I grabbed the video  :ph34r: ). It won't play videos (because I don't have the video player plugin), audio only, and foobar got its own VU meter, well, kind of. I can see the pitch started playing from 0:35-0:36, which then I cross-checked with the video, it's at around 19kHz-18kHz.

 

Now if it's supposed to be sound artifacts from YT encoding, that I don't know....
