I just don't see the point in replying to most of his comments on apple stuff, because usually they are right, or at the very least more correct than anyone else.

I do get to have a laugh out of reading the comments of people arguing with him however.

If I get bagged popcorn my microwave is too small so it gets stuck on the wall and burns the bag before it can pop.

I need a new microwave.

You can buy mine for 10 dollars if I had the money to get a bigger one.

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

God your kitchen sucks. Go find a kitchen thread and order a new one.

The stove is actually awesome, one of the best stoves I've ever used. I like to keep things really clean though.

I lack a dishwasher. That's the part that makes my kitchen terrible.

I think I just need to get off of my lazy ass and get a new microwave.

Oh no...

not him.

At least we had some "competitive" conversations.

He's an Apple fanboy that can ,indeed, come up with some real facts. That's good.He will never bow down to anyone saying Apple is inferior though,no matter what.

When someone posts something apple, THEY....MUST....HATE

It's like an "I can hate apple more than you" e-penis competition.

"Look , mom!

I hate Apple now!

I am going to be so kewl when i grow up!"

says every Apple hater, ever

I love how people are evading Builder's arguments, and then take something that he had said previously out of context, just so they can magically justify that "anybody that says anything nice about Apple is a rabid Apple worshipper". This is a case where the haters are many magnitudes more annoying than the fanboys.

The hate doesn't come from "I love Apple", it's how cocky he is.

I can't stand him because he's a socialist (or argues in favor of it), and in my opinion he makes up bullshit arguments sometimes to defend things that are clearly wrong with apple, he's a fanboy and never have I seen him admit any wrongdoing on apple's part ever.

When/why did this love apple/builder fest start?

Basically this, he's never ever willing to admit that apple is in some ways inferior, and in some ways a bad company.

I have to ask: how is your methodology any better?

To throw your own argument back at you, you have never ever been able to admit that Apple is in some ways superior, and in some ways a good company. The thing about any company or product is that it is based on personal tastes and finding the right compromise. Apple is no different. There are thing that you do not like about Apple; that is fine. But you need to at least appreciate that there are some legitimate benefits to the ecosystem, and that people may select these benefits over others. The same goes for GPUs, consoles, cars, and politics. You cannot retaliate blind support with blind hatred, all that does is have you scoop to their level, often times even lower, and reinforce the stereotypes set against all of us (see the OP and my earlier post for examples).

Call Builder an Apple fanboy as you wish, but at the very least he brings some technical information with citations, and all he gets in return is ad-hominem attacks with little to no counter-argument. Is that not a bit unfair?

Fair enough, but I've still yet to see a single legitimate benefit to their ecosystem. And I have to say, the fact that most of the business world agrees with me, is a big statement.

This goes back to personal taste. You may not see the benefits, but that does not necessarily mean that they do not exist. The idea otherwise would fall into a Hempel's Paradox. Other people my find use for things that one person does not. That is why brainstorming is done a a group. It is also where the term "one man's trash is another man's treasure" applies in practice.

Even if you come with a counter-argument,he will either come up with another one or discard your argument.

Fair enough, but you cannot deny that he defends apple on literally everything, as far as he is concerned, they are better in every way than everyone else and can do no wrong. Even on things like the Iphone's not having expandable storage, there are literally no good arguments for that other than "well you have to have a little slot that either comes with a rubber thingy (who cares?) or just an open slot that gets stuff in it (kinda like the slot for the charger?)" which can both be nullified by the other issue with apple products and phones, no changeable batteries. Which I honestly don't see the point of. but still, he will never accept being wrong, and that is why I troll him. Also this:

Once again, look at the OP. From how I see it, he is simply trying to balance the merits between Apple and it's respective competitors, and he is actually open to constructive criticism. I would not call the recent responses to him constructive in any stretch of the imagination (asides from a select few), and I would guess that he is more than a little frustrated by this.

And even if he defends Apple to the teeth, so be it. That does not give a good reason for trolling. In fact, nothing does. As I said before, this kind of action is counter-intuitive as well as damaging. When somebody wants to engage in a conversation, you have to be well mannered and constructive, regardless of what you think of the person or his views.

I'd also like to point out as someone who is forced to use a mac during college I'm happy to give my opinion they are horrible machines.

Oh I agree and all, but there is a lot of mac ignorance, not just among apple fans but among PC enthusiasts as well. I'm pretty much a mac expert somewhat, so I know the positives and can acknowledge them.

Awww thanks guys...never did I think I'd become a member this divisive. My experience so far on this forum has been truly life changing though and I hope nothing I say or do will ever get in the way of the bigger mission of getting people interested in computing and computer science.

The hate doesn't come from "I love Apple", it's how cocky he is.

I am indeed one cocky son of a bitch. No point in denying that. If that's indeed what most peoples' problem is though I can try to tone it down some.

I can't stand him because he's a socialist (or argues in favor of it), and in my opinion he makes up bullshit arguments sometimes to defend things that are clearly wrong with apple, he's a fanboy and never have I seen him admit any wrongdoing on apple's part ever.

Basically this, he's never ever willing to admit that apple is in some ways inferior, and in some ways a bad company.

I've admitted wrongdoing several times. I think they should make their OS more distributable by opening up the EULA a little, I want them to open source more components, and I'm not entirely onboard with several of their design choices. Those are just a few of the items on this list. I could think of many more if you'd like to here them.

I know we disagree on politics but I don't think they're the main reason why I'm such a divisive member. Yes, I'm socialist leaning left. In the US I'm basically communist. In Europe I'd probably be a decent amount left of the center, whereas Obama is closer to center-right by most other countries' standards. I'm not really an Obama supporter, I just have even less support for the right in this country. And almost nobody else has a chance to win. A vote you give to an independent candidate is a vote lost to someone that can actually win. That's an unfortunate consequence of first past the post voting systems. You inevitably end up with two polarized parties. Obviously the entire spectrum here is moving right recently but the effect still exists. If you'd like to see exactly where my politics lie I'm a big fan of Bernie Sanders.

Apple is of course inferior for certain things. Every company is. Some of their devices just aren't for some people. That's fine. Choice is what makes this a free market. I try to balance out all the voices with either strong misconceptions or biases.

And I have to say, the fact that most of the business world agrees with me, is a big statement.

Just because the business world is rooted in Windows and Blackberry doesn't make it good. There wasn't a lot of choice when these companies built their systems. Ford recently switched to iPhone from Blackberry. The world is changing. Companies are switching to BYOD policies in some cases or when they offer their employees a choice of computer and most ask for a Mac, sometimes they decide to standardize. That's what happened with Ford. I believe Google is predominantly Mac, for example, because their employees get whatever equipment they need to do their jobs.

Even if you come with a counter-argument,he will either come up with another one or discard your argument.

D:

But that's how arguments work. If I change arguments, it's because I think you've made an effective counter. Debate is not one argument and one counterargument. It's argument to argument and then a stream of counterarguments until time is up and a winner is decided. It doesn't stop with your counter. I counter the counterargument and the debate continues.
