Any help with my headphone purchase?

dollari6

Hi!

I see myself as an audiophile, and now I am looking for headphones to listen to when I am at school, shopping, traveling, etc. Basically I mean headphones I don't need amplifier with and of course, sound quality, comfort and lightness are great things to have. For this kind of use, I have my iPhone 4s as sound source. So, 32ohm impedance is absolute maximum. My budget is up to 300€ which is probably 350$ today. So, my needs are

Max 32 ohm impedance

350$/300€ budget

Audiophile grade

I've considered Sennheiser IE80s but I'm little bit afraid of in-ear headphones, if you recommend these, then help me with my fear of IEM. Some options are also V-Moda M-100, PSB M4U1 and Sony MDR 1a. Can you help me with this problem, and what do you recommend? Why? Thank you for the answers!

FYI I'm from Finland so I apologise for my english.

I use the MDR-1A and find it very very comfortable. They really are nice. The mids are a little far, but the bass and the highs are sweet.

I assume since you say your iphone that having a headphone you could listen to anywhere is important?  If so I would shy away from any open backed cans.

For on the go listening I definitely prefer IEMs. There are some that sound amazing and they are so much more portable. You can stick them in your pocket and go. I have used over ears as portable headphones before and my favorite is the Sony MDR 1R. The 1A is it's replacement and it should be very good as well but it really depends on the price. I personally wouldn't pay the $300 MSRP on them for it. At that price, I rather have a Fostex TE05 at half the price.

I don't know about iphones, but my sgs4 powers my 250ohm DT880s. I have to run at full volume but it works.

I don't even know how to respond to this...

Huh, weirdly that site doesn't seem to be working properly. Those images were full size when I posted them.

This is one of the reasons why hotlinking is bad.
