doesn't coil whine come from high fps (e.g. 1000fps+ in menus?) At least that's what my 7870 does, although if i turn my head 90° away from my pc i can't hear it anymore

no, only when it get's really hot so the fan need to spin faster

Actually it does. I have set my fan to NEVER go above 50%, 3dmark's stupid tablet bench gives me thousands of FPS, I hear the whine in full throttle. (Card is no where near higher fan speeds)

Games without Vsync in the Menu's giving 1000+ fps stated above do the same thing.

It really is dependant on the card itself, some PSU+GPU combo's whine, some don't,.. sometimes it IS the fan above a certain speed.

Not always. Just sayin.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

try using RadeonPro's variable V-sync (just like the Nvidia one) to fix that ^_^

To me its a non issue, I have fps limits in place for certain games that do this.

I was only clarrifying that its not just a fan issue causing the coil whine.

  • 7 months later...

I have the exact same card and it gets 81 degrees at 70% fan speed at stock clocks. I have two fans pointed right at it, think it might have something to do with the thermal paste. The only paste I have is the one that came with my hyper 212 evo, will that help?

Man 7950 was and still is such a great price/performance card loved mine to bits. Once overclocked it just destroyed everything in it's price bracket. At least here in the states.
