I kind hope they don't. then it would be even more confusing, cause then you could quite possibly have chips spanning three generations (7790/260) in use in three different naming schemes. Even if this one is annoying, I'd rather stick with this until we get to the r9 700 series or so.

I would think that the introduction of next gen GPUs would phase out the 7000 series GPUs.

well yes, they won't be sold anymore (new) but remember, there are people out there still using 6000 series GPUs. hell, 5000 series GPUs. even if they're not sold anymore, they'll be talked about still, which means that it matters.

If it's another uninteresting APU then I swear I'll break something.

If you're going to have a big hype page and stuff then release something good. A new CPU architecture or a new graphics card lineup for example.

I can only speak for myself. Anytime I see marketing like Nvidia game24 or this AMD pill crap makes me very leery of their products. All I care about is what the card can or can't do. I don't need the fluff they try to sell. Spend the marketing money on R&D and let the products speak for themselves.

When companys try to do stuff like this it either doesnt sell as good as otherwise(due to people not taking buzzwords into account) or they dont sell as well(due to lack of knowledge of the product).

And so GabeN has told us to march forthith unto the Land of Holy welding our swords of mice, shields of keyboards, and helmets of Oculus Rifts where we shall reclaim it-which is rightfully ours-from the PUNY Console Peasants from whom armed only with mere controllers we shall decimate in all forms of battle and we shall dominate even in their most ridiculous tradition and infatuation of CoD. Yes, my brothers- sisters and trans sexuals too- we shall destroy the inferior of races with our might and majesty. And if any Peasants wish to join us they must speak now or forever perish. -Ancient Speech from a Leader of Old, Book of Murratri section 2

AMD just stop being so childish with this game 24 thing. If you don't release a card that out performs a titan Z for $300, then you're going to be laughed at. You've hyped yourself up too much to possibly live up to it.

A card that beats the Titan Z at $300? That's unrealistic. I'd say a card that performs the same as the GTX 980 for a cheaper price would be sufficient.

I hate the marketing and the hype surrounding new releases from Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. Just release your freaking BS product already. I'm getting sick and tired of this stupid Sh@t

They need marketting, but the constant shots they're taking at each other do get annoying.

While I'm here, your profile-pic-gif-thing is awesome!

Probably new cards. I've noticed my local PC hardware not re-stocking their 280X's

That's because of the R9 285.

That's because of the R9 285.

Doesn't the 280X perform better at close to the same price? I don't even know why the 285 exists.

I swear they start out renaming their product line to something that makes sense, then proceeds to perform some backwards-ass logic to the next iteration and we're back to the same mess after 3 generations. /rant Sorry.

EDIT.

I think figured out their marketing and its annoying. They're going to release a new flagship and its going to be greater than the 290X or 295X. Now since they released the 285 and cancelling the 280X, There's a price/performance gap between the 285 and the 290. They'll probably do some aggressive pricing and bring down the 290 to previous 280X's original price bracket, and price drop the 290X as well. So in the new line-up it'll be 285, 290, 290X, Mystery card or 295X2, Mystery card or 295X2.

If this announcement is not introducing their new flagship GPUs, then I'm gonna go ahead and pull the trigger on a GTX 970. ;)

If it is, we'll have to see if they can steal the crown from Maxwell...

The 285 is a brand new GPU architectur/chip. It replaces the 280/280X and performs close to but a little better than the 280. The 280 and 280X are being discontinued/retired.

And yes, the naming is really stupid and confusing.
