Yes, it Does. But i'm a fan ( No Pun Intended ) Of the MSI  Cooler, It suits my build perfectly, not to mention the MSI logo and dragon light-up :)

Fair enough, I have two Twin Frozr IV's but for having them for so long, when they get hot enough the fans get so loud that I just can't stand it.

I'm gonna go with either EVGA or Gigabyte if I'm going to buy a 970 though.

well... i don't think the cooler is gonna cut it, actually it looks like crap.

It's an 80 flagship card, everybody is gonna wanna overclock this thing and then they put this shit ass cooler on it?, you can get better temps with the reference card i think :/ hopefully there is descend ROG that looks better, otherwise i'm not going asus on this one.

Really, I don't get why people make assumptions like this. You have no idea how it will perform and drawing conclusions based on how it "looks" is pointless.

If you don't like the looks, that's fine. That's your opinion. But claiming it's a "crap cooler" when the card hasn't even been released yet is just silly.

And also the lower australian dollar at the current time causing pricing to be higher, good for exporting of some goods as its more wanted then but bad for imports (think I got it the right way around

Converting USD to AUD it should cost $617 AUD but we're still charged over 700

Wasn't saying we don't pay extra for tax was saying it is greater compounded by our lower dollar at the moment.

Seeing that you habe the MSI 970 I have to ask, how loud is it? When is the temperature threshhold for the fans to turn on? I am a big fan of the TF4 for it's low humming noise and great cooling. But the TF5 looks a bit odd to me. How is it?

Can you still set fan curves in MSI AB and have the fans be semi passive?

Would be very grateful for an answer. ;)

who cares...

In all the reviews/benchmarks I have seen thus far, both the MSI gaming and Asus Strix 970's run silent (fans off) until about 60 degrees and when the fans do turn on, they don't scream at crazy high rpm, but rather run much slower and quieter.

But of the two, the MSI temps are quite a bit lower than the Strix (~28-30 degrees idle and 60-65 degrees load vs. 45 degrees idle and 68 degrees load). While 45 to 68 degrees is still well within reasonable limits, I'm now leaning towards the MSI, just because it's that much cooler and silent. (And the logo illuminates :D )

The MSI also has one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe power input vs. the Strix with just one 8-pin. One review I saw, they were able to hit 1500mhz OC without increasing voltage on the MSI. Yeah... That's just awesome! B)

Sorry for the late reply.

The Fans turn on at 60 Degrees stock, but I don't like the idea of silence, so i've set up my own fan curve.

But if you leave everything at stock, it's dead silent until 60 Degrees, and even then, the fans only spin to about 900 to cool it back down, then they'll turn off.

The hottest my cards been is 65 Degrees and the fans were spinning at around 1k, Couldn't hear shit, and i'm using an Air 540, Top Stuff.

just found a cheaper one here: http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=426120

although you're better off importing (YouShop?).

_____________

Yeh, Ascent is usually dearer but maybe this time they are cheaper. Also they are middle man they ship form other peoples warehouses. With importing, I don't want to have to RMA to the US.

I'm all for silent gaming. If the GPU is so efficient and the temps are well in check then there's really no need for the fans to be running.

Reason being, if something is running cooler for the longer periods of time, it will in fact have less wear an tear and thus lasting a longer duration.

Also, another cool thing to add about the MSI Card, I done some quick overclocking (Didnt push it to the max) and got over 1500MHz, see picture :D

It will be long past 5-7 years before that actually starts to become a factor, plus you can slide the silent region down to 40oC if it bugs you so much. I'd say 99% of people would prefer the silence, it's great, and when I'm browsing the web or typing a document, the silence of my MSI 970 on the desktop is worth the AUD$519 purchase price
