New monitor, but can't choose (24" vs 27", 16:9 vs 16:10, IPS vs VA vs PLS)

nicknick

I currently have a Acer P223W 22" 16:10 (1680x1050) TN lcd screen, and i am looking to upgrade this monitor to a larger monitor.

At first i simply wanted to pick up a 27" LCD screen. However after looking at several options, i'm not sure anymore.

These are the monitors i am considering at the moment:

1. LG 24MB65PM               24", 16:10, 1920x1200, IPS,       5MS

2. Samsung S24C650BW,  24", 16:10, 1920x1200, PLS,      5MS

3. BenQ GW2760HE,          27", 16:09, 1920x1080, A-MVA, 4ms

My main concern is that the 3rd option is only 1920x1080 at 27", but i do read that a A-MVA screen does offer great contrast.

Choosing between 1 an 2 is also difficult, should i go for IPS or PLS, what is better?

My budget is about €200 ($260) and i'm sitting about 1 meter (40 inches) from my monitor.

Main use of my monitor is watching movies/series and playing games (FPS), occasionally i also do photo editing on my PC.

I am open to suggestions of other monitors.

Samsung. PLS is generally better than IPS or should be. 27inch 1080p looks bad.

Go Samsung PLS>IPS, and I personally prefer 16:10 over 16:9...

@nicknick if you were mainly watching movies and did other similar things I would highly recommend the VA monitor for you because of the display technologies great contrast (usually 3,000:1 - 5,000:1). However, considering that you do photo editing work (even just as a hobby) I would highly recommend the IPS or PLS monitors for that task, as they will provide much better colour accuracy then a VA or even a TN monitor can produce (even once colour calibrated).

I hope that helps you decide. :)

@Geekazoid I think i will go for a IPS/PLS monitor then. While i really like the idea of a VA panel with it's high contrast, i don't like the resolutions they come in.

Most VA panels seem to be 16:9 and 1920x1080. My current monitor is 1680x1050, vertical resolution would only increase by 30 pixels when upgrading.
