Hey guys I'm in the market for a 290X and would love your opinions on which is the best. At the moment I'm leaning towards the Sapphire Tri-X one but nothing is set in stone at the moment. I would love for it to match my new PC's color scheme of white and black with a dash of blue but I'm sure I can find a nice white water block for it so that shouldn't matter too much.

Hands down Tri-X.

Vapor-X isn't worth the extra cost imo

290x Vapor X from sappire is arguably the best other than maybe MSI's Lightning... But you mention waterblock  if your going watercooling get a reference as usually waterblocks are designed for reference and reference alone and may not even be compatible with a non reference one...

True.

Plus, the performance will be negligible. The vapor-x is just prettier to look at. @Cperez6993, Save your money and get a 290. The 290x isn't worth the premium for an extra 2-4 frames.

So far it seems like Vapor X is winning lol I was honestly considering it because I think it's such an attractive card xD but I don't know if it's worth the extra cost, and I don't know if or how the vapor chamber affects water cooling

It's not worth the extra cost. It's just cooler to look at, but there's always plasti dip.

If you wish to install a waterblock in the future, go reference, if you can live with the jet engine until you get a block on it

Never let looks become the deciding factor when choosing parts. It's not like you're trying to impress people with it. Plus, saving money is always a good thing!

The only difference between a reference card and a non-reference one is that the non-reference one is usually overclocked and has superior cooling right? So if I buy a reference 290x which I think are some of the cheapest and install a water block, I can then overclock it to where it'll probably surpass non-reference cards right?

I was going to get a vapor-x 290x but I settled for a tri-oc 290 which easily overclocked to give performances that were around a 290x. Imho its not worth the extra money.

The vapor x used to be worth the cost, but the price has climbed a fair amount in recent weeks, probably because of its reputation as the boss 290/x card. It was maybe worth paying an extra 50 bucks over the tri x, but now its like over 100 more(and the tri x price climbed a little).
