Intel vs AMD

Go to solution Solved by MrImnotMLG,

Games only use 2-4 core AT THE MOST. Intel CPU's have better single-threaded performance vs a competing AMD product. Until we get games that uses all the cores then Intel is better.

I have a question about this two cpus :
AMD FX-9370 Vishera 8x 4,4GHz
Or an
Intel Core i5-4690K OC 4x 4,5GHz

My question now is which one is better i dont do any video rendering or editing just hardcore gaiming and some normal progamms while im gaiming. Most of the people say intel is better at any time especially for gaiming but im not sure 8 vs 4 cores clocked at 4,5 ghz do i have a benifit from 8 cores wehn im gaiming ? :)

PLS DONT START A FLAME WAR !!!

I would suggest that you do some research yourself, these threads never usually get anywhere. There are pros and cons to both cpu and IMO it comes done to price and what "next gen" games are going to be.

Take the i5-4690K. Out of the box the 4690K is pretty much only worse at video encoding, but you overclock it to 4.5GHz and it will perform better at everything.

Also there's more to it than GHz. The clock speed only represents how many cycles it does per second, it doesn't tell you how much gets done in each cycle. So even with just 4 cores, the i5-4690K has maximum performance not far behind the FX-9370 at the same speed... and in any application that uses 4 or fewer threads, it will perform much better.

Price to performance amd wins every day. However if you have a bit more to spend intel is definitely the route to go.

Not really. People assume this because maximum theoretical multi-threaded performance of the AMD CPUs are better than Intel's at that price point, but in 99% of real-world scenarios, including gaming, Intel will win at any $100+ price point, be it i3 vs FX-6300 or i5 vs FX-8350. The cost benefit of AMD comes when you factor in motherboards since you can get some really good motherboards for AMD for like $75, while the H81, B85 and H97 boards are pretty lacklustre.

The only time where AMD CPUs are better IMO is under $100 when you're comparing Pentiums to Athlons... then AMD is a much better option.
