Desperately in need of a monitor upgrade.

Frenchfri79
Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

I have a 1Gb 7770 at the moment but it's being swapped for a 7970 soon, that's why I'm considering the monitor upgrade

7970 still won't push a 1440p monitor to the levels I'd want from it.

A lot would argue it does, however I don't see the point in dropping the level of game effects and potential lag issues for a slightly prettier image.

I'm currently looking at a 290 to power a 1080p monitor, that should give more than 60fps on Ultra in almost every game.

I've been using a ViewSonic VA1721wmb (1440x900) 17" LCD monitor now for way to long, and I've decided it's finally time for an upgrade, but I don't really know where to start. My computer is mainly used for gaming, and I don't participate in hugely competitive matches so I think IPS is the way I'm leaning (I can go either way). Unfortunately I have no clue when it comes to which monitors are the best "Bang For Your Buck" I know that 1920x1080 is pretty much the lower standard for games, but I'm not really sure if it's worth it to spend the extra cash and go with a 1440p display. If anybody has some input on what I should look into getting, it would be really helpful. Thanks!

Well your HD 7770 wont handle 1440p well so i would personally go with 1080p IPS or PLS

I would go for a 24" 1080p display to be honest.

Of course, if you are sitting a bit away from your screen, it is important to note that larger sizes are preferable.

Compatible with Windows 95

Considering your GPU you should go with a 24" 1080p monitor.

What kind of graphics card do you have?
You're pushing almost 3x as many pixels with a 1440p monitor as a 900p.

A nice middle ground is a 1080p IPS monitor, provided you don't want super fast refresh rates for FPS games.

The Dell U2414H is my first recommendation to most people.

The graphics card is actually getting swapped out by the end of this month for a the much more powerful Sapphire HD 7950 (which I'm buying off a friend who likes to upgrade his PC's every few months for a great price!) I should have included that in the post, and its why I'm considering the monitor, because there isn't a point in getting an uber graphics card to run this display!

a 7970 should max out almost any games in 1080p, if you stick with 1 it is possible it will struggle with 1440p now and then.

I think a nice IPS 1080p will be perfect for you, like it has been suggested before.

Well then 1080p sounds like the obvious winner to me! I'll start doing my homework before I buy anything but A good clean 60fps at that resolution sounds like a way better alternative to losing frames for more pixels! Thanks for the help!

This is a good deal without breaking your bank.  However, it does have a medium (5ms) response.  I have a HP W2408 with the same response rate and it's nothing I find intrusive.
