Gtx 770 a game changer..

Looks like I'm getting a 4gb and water cooling it then sli later. Sounds like the best value in trends of raw power.

Its basically a 680 still more expensive than a 7970 for less power.

That's going to depend a lot on the game and the resolution. At above 1080p, I would have to agree, but early benchmarks look a little wonky, Linus had the 770 below the 680 in performance which should not be possible, so maybe a driver revision is needed, or maybe, as he said, they just had a poor overclocker.

Why would you get the 4GB model?

In terms of price, Newegg and Amazon sells their 7970's at close to or more than the price of the GTX 770.

*Amazon has not listed any GTX 770's yet*

In terms of performance, these reviews say the GTX 770 is better.

No they don't, Anandtech ripped on Nvidia for cheaping out on the memory buffer saying that 2GB is not enough especially on a 400 dollar card.

Tom's hardware said that the 7970 on average is faster than the 770 and Linus outright avoided recommending the card all together.

Why would you get the 4GB model?

You have more VRAM so you can play at higher resolutions and it will support newer games longer.

Or not... i am one of very few people that say that no graphic card today ( excluding the titan, 7990, 690 and the 780 ) is made for over 1080p resolutions in single card configuration, the gpu's can't really handle it, just look at Linuses video they all struggle with 1440p, Nvidia gets hit harder than AMD, but they are not that much apart, i mean AMD cards have 1 gig more and don't really have any better performance in DX 11 titles.

I mean who cares if AMD won a test at 1440p with 16 fps? i wonder how did Slick even finish his benchmark at 16 fps

Its basically a 680 still more expensive than a 7970 for less power.

Yes and no, go watch Tiny Tom Logan's review, you will see what linus means with his card did not boost well

Not to mention a lot of people say 7950 is a better choice than a 670, but i read a lot of reviews that say different, and i have another question, if the 7950 is performing so well, and that it can go to 7970 overclocked speeds, why bother buying a 7970, there is something i am missing here, not to mention Linuses 670 seems to be like really limited

If i read the table corect: his card should go from 915 mhz +200 that should mean he gets over 1150, more like 1180 overclock ( i get 1180 with 0.20 voltage increase, but he went higher ) on that card when the boost kicks in, but that's my problem i saw a lot of people go well over 1200 on the core with that card, so it might be that the his 670 is very limited.

One last thing, how all of a sudden is under 30 fps in a 1440p a passable score?

So you want a 4GB VRAM on a card with only 256-bit memory bus? There were already reviews done that showed that the 256-bit bus can't take full advantage of a 4GB VRAM.

Anandtech and Linus most likely got not that good a sample seeing as a majority of reviewers have better results for the GTX 770. Don't limit yourself to only a couple of reviews but look at a bigger sample size.

I must say I was somehow disappointed to see the 770. Everyone suspected it to be a rebranded 680, which basically it is, but the performance is really poor, compared to what the 780 put on the table. Yes it's a lot more expensive, but it is an upgrade, while the 770 isn't.

I've read about flashing 680s into 770s, perhaps I'll try that in the next few weeks and get a free "upgrade".

And I'm still really excited for the Vulcanic Island cards :D rumored to be somewhere between the Titan and the 780 at about 600$ ^^

Yes in some cases, but the problem is why go 1440p when no card can run it smooth at highest detail, and when you lower that thing you can play it even on a HD 6979 or GTX 580...

You seem really happy about those cards, also, looking at the title you decided to give your thread, you must be really fond of them.

But how are they that awesome? You could have had about this performance for about a year now by buying two 680s. ANd the HD7970 is still a better card, especially at 1440p+

I really don't think so, from what I've seen from all the reviews, the 7970 remains the better option unless you're a hardcore Nvidia fan.
The 7970 and the 770 perform within margin of error most of the time, except in games where the 7970 has a sizable advantage due to its double percision 64bit floating point performance like Hitman Absolution & Sleeping Dogs.
The 7970 also comes as standard with 3GB of VRAM so you don't find yourself in a situation like you do with the 770 where you have to think about whether you need to pony up for the larger 4GB buffer or stick to the standard 2GB.

Another bonus is having the assurance that most if not all next-gen titles will be automatically optimized for your card because of the GCN based Radeon heart in the XBOX One & the PS4.
AMD also tries to swing you their way by their extremely attractive game bundle of Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite & Far Cry : Blood Dragon.

You also feel safe knowing that if you decide to upgrade your monitor & migrate to higher resolutions that performance will scale better than the 770 & you will have enough memory.

There are still some advantages to the 770 however like GPU based PhysX and currently frame pacing in SLI, this advantage however will soon become irreverent when AMD release their Heart Beat pacing technology.
CUDA used to be an advantage in premiere pro software but Adobe & AMD went ahead and released OpenCL support on the new Premiere Pro CC software.

All in all though, I still maintain the 7970 is the better overall package.

That in my mind is a problem for AMD because if you want the best performance you will still go NVidia, and i want to see AMD push NVidia to give us cards that can go 1440p at lower cost, and that we have a healthy competition, i plan on buying a new card in 2 generations ( 3 max ), and i would love to see both do well, and since AMD is not doing that great, amd will become mediocre like in the CPU market, if they do not step up their game GPU-s will follow.

All in all though, I still maintain the 7970 is the better overall package.

For once we agree XD

Well, we are gonna have to wait for newer drivers to really decide, but guru3d tech town and a few other sites all show the GTX 770 just destroying the market.

You missed these then :

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-770-gk104-review,3519.html

If you run an average of the single-card frame rates generated in this review, GeForce GTX 770 is a 52.4 FPS card. The Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition lands at 53.8 FPS.

Nah, I don't think so, the Titan is a very pointless product, even compared to the 780 because while it is the fastest single GPU, it's way too expensive after all.

And if AMD gets performance above the 780 and slightly below the Titan at a significantly lower cost than a Titan, I can tell you they will sell like crazy.

Let's say, AMD has been a greater competition to Intel a while ago, but GPU wise, since they acquired ATI, they rock the boat ^^

The other reviewers say otherwise and Linus did say at the beginning of his videos that he either got not that good a sample or a driver issue.

I agree Nvidia have dropped the ball lately on their drivers and a lot of people have been having issues with GPU boost 2.0 as well which seems like it's in beta almost.

I flashed a custom BIOS on my Titan and it seems to have fixed the throttling issue of GPU Boost 2.0.

the gtx 770 can be a great buy if they get a good bundle along with it. Still for cheaper than a hd 7970 you are getting better performance, nvidia technologies and lower power consumption.
