M.2 and SataE support are the most predominant differences as well as support for the upcoming Broadwell cpus. You may be able to flash your Z87's bios for support with Haswell Refresh and Devil's Canyon.

Z97 supports haswell-refresh processors out of the box, while Z87 needs a BIOS update for them. BIOS updates do require having a CPU installed on most boards, so unless you happen to have a haswell processor lying around, you should go with Z97 if you want to use a haswell refresh processor. Also, Z97 will support Broadwell in the future.

Basically , if you dont have a computer and your going to build a new one yourself, there really isn't a reason to buy a z87 unless you know about some really good sell prices that i dont. The z97 boards have better features and the refresh cpu are better.

Better. <---- Pretty much. More upgradeable, better OC(?), Broadwell support, Haswell Refresh support out of the box, maybe some fancy stuff like M.2 or SATA Express.

You said better OC (?) meaning that you have no clue. Don't say what you don't know.

Touche, but I don't think that is what he was looking for, and if he typed in the correct "buzz words"  that thread would likely be one of the first hits.

Also, not sure if that is with Devil's Canyon CPUs or just Haswell CPUs.  I think it might be specific to Haswell CPUs paired with a 9 series motherboard because of the TDP designs.

I dont think many people are pairing a haswell processor with a "devil's canyon" motherboard.

I'm getting fed up with people wanting to be spoon fed information when it can easily be found with a Google search.  Its been a trend on this forum lately and it has really made my snarky attitude towards the lazy come out.

"lets create a thread asking if the X61 will fit inside of an H440."  Or Type into Google "H440 + NZXT X61?"  That is just one example, but I hope you catch my drift.

I understand this is a forum and a community to help others, but when the person asking for help has made ZERO effort to solve the problem on their own it is annoying.  At least meet me half way and do some general research.

I get it, but that doesn't justify having a snide remark to everyone who may not think of searching before. And some people do this for reassurance.

I know I did, and it has helped me out a ton.

Think of it this way: there's now one more search result for the next user who searches; not a bad thing, wouldn't you say?

You can generally sift through those who are looking for reassurance and those who just want the answer without any of the work.

This is the latter.

It reminds me of a line from Orange Is the New Black, for those who haven't seen the show it is two older women locked in prison talking with a younger woman about the internet:

-"So you mean to tell me that all of the information in the universe is out there on...wires at the click of a button?"

-"Yes"

-"But people are still stupid, right?"

There is not much of a diffrence basicly.

The main diffrence is sata express on some motherboards, not even all of them.

Further both chipsets are very similer

only the Z97 chipset supports indeed the Devils canyon cpu´s out of the box.

But Asus Z87 boards are capable of bios flash without cpu installed.

I understand this is a forum and a community to help others, but when the person asking for help has made ZERO effort to solve the problem on their own it is annoying.  At least meet me half way and do some general research.

First off I did chack goggle, I really didn't see a diffrence  from what I had found other then what megaDave91 had said abouth the M.2 and ESata.

So I created this post to double confirm what I jad learned. at least i learned that the Z97 boards support Broadwell.

Secondly I'm asking because someone in my class challanged me to build a Gaming PC to match his brother's Xbox One for SGD$700.00(USD $ 550.89) (console + Battlefield 4 +kinect ) Seeing that his brother doesn't want him anywhere near his Xbox One.

Because I had my doubts on the AsRock Z87M- Extreme 4 board being sold at a very low price I was worried I might be missing out on something important... Like if the board isn't able to use the budget processor (G3258). So far I after reading the infomation I don't see any problems.

So thank you to everyone that helped answer all my headaches

Btw Faceman the point of the forum as Linus said it was so that people that did not undersand about the computers can come and ask for friendly advice :)
