LTT 3DMark Thread

Am I missing something?  The only difference between the two are PCIe lane count.  Other than that they are the same when run at the same clock speed

I'm probably wrong on that....but, have you ever seen a 5820k run a 20k graphics score?  Me either....  I've seen the 5930k pull that off though, running the same clocks I was to barely reach over 19k.  /shrug

New CPU came in.  Baseline run..no need to update.  CPU with just the XMP profile enabled, and clocks to 4.0....not sure what that's about.  Time to do some reading, I guess.  Anyway...too warm in here to put a hard run on the GPU, but, ran it at a nice easy 1557 / 2103.

When you set XMP with the 6950x, it automatically clocks to 4 GHz.  Exact same thing happened with the one that I had.

I need to see if I can get the voltage lowered a bit.  It's defaulting to 1.277v.  I ran OCCT for a couple hours on it, and it peaked at 76c.  A bit warm for my liking...it is rather warm in this room today, though.  26c....

Glad to hear that you got that beast up and running.  Looking forward to seeing some results.

This was one of my runs with the 6950x that I had at 4.5 in FireStrike 1.1

Oh yeah bud.  Be ready for some heat!!!!!  You're going to need water cooling to cool your water cooling.  :P

Here are the temps I was getting during a 1.5 hour OCCT:Linpack with  AVX enabled.  Grant it, I was at 4.5 GHz and 1.4v+ volts, but that sucker was HOT!

I've been looking to see if there's a cure time for Kryonaut, but I can't find anything.  The temps I'm getting seem a tad high for the clocks / volts.

Why did you get rid of the 6950X?

Core for core at MAX overclock, my 5960x was faster.  Don't get me wrong, Broadwell-E is much better clock for clock, but when I pushed both to max overclock, the single core and multi core performance of my 5960x was better when comparing the same amount of cores.  I hope that makes sense?  Keep in mind that my 5960x is above average, but in order for me to justify keeping my 6950x, I needed more.

I tried the same direct experimenting with a 6800k with the same results.

With all cores firing though, there is no disputing that the 6950x is an absolute BEAST.

How much surface area are you working with in your loop?

Asus tested hundreds of Broadwell-E chips in their board prep for Broadwell-E.  This was their breakdown.

The 6950x I had would do 4.5 @ 1.45v stable all day long without issue.  SL was selling chips guaranteed to 4.4 @ 1.344v for $1900, which is the same voltage of the 6950x I had at 4.4.  I bought mine at Micro Center for $1599.00  :P
