My friends R9 270 perfoms the same as my 560 TI.

Bit8xPr0

We get the same FPS in Cinbench R15 and my 560 TI is stock and 1GB. IS his card broken?

Update drivers.

Also, try a game that doesn't run on Java.

You should check his thermals and what is his PSU it could be throttling due to heat or power

How hot does his GPU get?

Like 35 C

he has a Corsair CX600M

He does have updated drivers. He just built his computer today. A game that doesn't use Java? Well it's obviously a problem if he gets less FPS in a Benchmark and in Minecraft. Can't just find the one thing that does work for his card better compared to mine.

3Dmark on both machines would show both CPU power and GPU power available via individual CPU/GPU scores you can compare.

Plenty of FREE benchmarks available if you google. Techpowerup Downloads have plenty of bench's.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

In MSI Afterburner he got 29 idle and like 36-40 in Cinebench

4GB of ram could definitely be limiting his potential.!

Hmm. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference. Especially in a GPU benchmark.

Sounds likely. From the temps he listed it looks like the system isn't utilizing the video card at all.

OP, you got an extra stick he could try to see? Or see if he can borrow one from another system in his house or something.

You'd be surprised.. the amount of data in a system going back and forth... up to 1.5GB already used by Windows. Leaving 2.5Gb Free, and if 3Dmark doesnt pool the rest of your ram, the left overs are still being used for swapping data back and forth..

Minecraft and Cinebench are pretty reliant on a decent memory system to work 100% efficient I'm sure. 4GB is usable, not ideal.

If you can throw another stick in there and retest his games 4GB vs 8GB just to be sure... if possible.

If he is using standard windows drivers then that's why.

Yeah. Next time I go to his house or he comes to mine I'll throw my ram into his system and test it.

Try testing both graphic cards in your system.
