Cheapest card for 1440p gaming

Speedbird

Hi

I'm wondering what would be the best and cheapest card to buy for gaming at 2560x1440. It doesn't have to run the latest titles at Ultra, High is good enough.  I mostly play Far Cry 3, but I might try other games too. Thanks.

No not for Far Cry 3

I said High is good enough. I don't need Ultra settings.

The R9 280 is almost as good as the R9 280X at a lower price, so a R9 280 would probably be better for you then.

Obviously not at ultra, but it's good enough. 3GBs of VRAM is perfect for 1440p resolution.

It gets an average of 35 FPS on high at 1080P

PLEASE DO NOT GET A 280X. You want be able to play on High settings at 1440p at even 30 fps. You can't just ask for suggestions and take the cheapest card someone says you have to do research.

Ok, 290 it is. I actually looked at some benchmarks, and yes, the 290 does perform a lot better.

Ok, 290 it is.

Be sure to get one with the Sapphire Tri-X or Vapor-X cooler then.

That will work, probably get 40 FPS on high. Just do not get a reference card.

Definitely 290. But I don't see a point in turning down settings just to get resolution...

I always play games at the monitor's native resolution.

I have never noticed and issue running higher or lower resolutions than 1080p on my monitor. As long as the aspect ratio stays the same it won't have any negative effects. But that's up to you. 290 is pretty rockin for the price. It will serve you well.
