What a pile of shit ...

I bought this monitor ...

http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-s24d590pl-23-6in-widescreen-pls-c9-95680-1011.htm

My 19" 2005 Dell VA monitor doesn't color shift at all. The Samsung on the other hand, being 9 years newer and a new PLS technology whitewashes as soon as you hit the angles. Faded pics are the Samsung. 2nd photo's are the Sammy.

Yeah VA or MVA panels dont have colour shifting, unless you forcefully look for it.

I dont know much about pls panels but the problem you are having could be why no uses pls panels. Have you seen any reviews for the monitor.

Lots of people use PLS panels. Sounds like the OP just received a lemon. Don't worry about it, it happens from time to time.

The monitor I was using for about 5 years had worse color.  Now I'm using a cheap panel but its got MUCH better colors.

That's IPS glow.  It's worse on some IPS panels than others; the Dell U2414H for example has very minimal IPS glow.

Yea there are different grades of PLS, I have the Samsung S27A850d which is also a PLS panel, no color shifting what so ever.

  • 2 weeks later...

I returned that monitor. The floor model also had major color shift.

Apparently these Samsung 5xx series are a cheaper AD-PLS and aren't comparable to their 8xx and 9xx series which are way more expensive and of a higher quality panel.

It's Samsungs answer to AH-IPS that LG.Display put out. So far, not that great.

Thanks @WestcoastPCBuilder for posting those images. I had thought seriously at one point about buying two of those monitors. Your post has just really helped realise to not cheap out on monitors. In some cases you get lucky but PLS is suppose to be much better than that. I wouldn't call it colour shifting but rather contrast shifting. That's what it looks like to me. Thanks once again for posting. This will help others decide against buying that monitor. :)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.
