Hello!

I am Lukas, a new member here and this is my first post :)

I am building a new computer and would be very thankful, if there would appear some nice people to critisize my build/recommend improvements.

>Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
>Asus Z97M-PLUS Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
>Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
>Corsair Force LS 60GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
>Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB 3.5" 5900RPM Internal Hard Drive
>Corsair Computer Case Carbide Series SPEC-01 Mid Tower Gaming Case
>Gigabyte GreenMax Plus 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
>SOUND CARD CREATIVE SB Z PCIe RTL (70SB150000001)
>(I will use my old one here) Gigabyte GTS 450

I mainly will use my computer for music production (only programs, no external instruments) and play some games every once in a while.
I am looking forward for responses! :)

Welcome @Feaver

That system looks good but I would get a bigger SSD since 60GB is rather small. Also what do you use the sound card for?

Presuming that since you make music the sound card might be linked but also modern motherboards have great onboard audio.

Also I like the music so far :)

Please put this in the "New Builds & Planning" section.

For a start, I'd get a 120GB SSD instead of a 60GB. Why? Some program's HAVE to be on the C drive, so you'll end up with no room. :P

I wouldn't personally go with WD Greens, but if you want to, hey! If I was you I'd get a 2TB Seagate Barracuda or Caviar Blue.

I'm not sure on the PSU. It may be great but I'd recommend a Corsair CS650M or similar for it. I'm not a PSU expert however.

I'm not sure on the GPU, but if you've used it before (and it looks like you have) then hey! Who are we to judge?

Honestly, this system looks extremely unbalanced.

I'd consider a Barracuda 2tb as others have said, or perhaps a WD Red depending on what it's used for.

Don't spend money on a 60gb SSD. They're slower, not that much cheaper, and will fill up quickly. Aim for 250gb for the best price to performance, and 128gb should be as low as you'll go.

I'd drop the CPU to an i5 and invest in a video card. I don't imagine that one can play many games at all. If you don't play many games, then it's fine. Though the integrated graphics might prove to be better.

If you need the hyperthreading for production consider a Xeon processor if you don't overclock.

Okay, thanks. I will change my hdd, but keep my gpu, since I don't want to pay extra since I already have a gpu that suits me. The main question I have - will this PC actually work? haha it sounds stupid, but I never built a PC before so I'm very afraid it might fail.
