Power draw test

So I bought one of those wall socket things that tells you what wattage you're drawing from the wall. I wanted to know because I  went SLI on some 780 lightnings with overclocks. Now here is the thing, I have an 850 watt corsair PSU. I ran Metro LL and was sitting just around 750 watts. Then I did a Prime95 and Furmark test together and saw it top out at 925 watts. Soooooo I know thats not a normal load but if my system is capable of needing that much power should I upgrade?? Or does it not matter all that much if I run over the PSUs rated power now and then?

925 x 0.89 = 823W

0.89 = 89% efficiency, or 80+Platinum

 

This is supposing you have a Platinum efficiency PSU.

If you have gold:

925 x 0.87 = 805W

Silver:

925 x 0.85 = 786W

 

So yes your PSU is almost maxed out if it is platinum efficiency. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

I beleive it has something to do with the 80+ rating

That's from the wall, you have to account for efficiency.

 

What PSU is it? If it's an AX it should take it forever they are pretty hardy.

What chip are you running? That's some impressive power usage there.

do you really need to OC a 780 SLI though?

Its a GS800 from corsair. Thought it was 850.. my bad. Thats a bronze 80+.
