Hi there everyone! So this is my first post, so I'm sorry if I did something wrong. Aside from that, I am spending money to build my first computer and want to make sure that I am getting everything right. Over the next few months, I will earn 1400 dollars, so that will be my budget. My goal is to build it by Christmas time, so I would love to know if there is any other new hardware coming out by then. This computer will be used for about 85 percent gaming, the rest either normal school use, and very minimal amounts of video editing, but I don't want that to be a factor. So that's about it, and here is my build.

Processor:

Intel Core i7-4790K Haswell 4.0 GHz LGA 1150

Mobo:
ASUS Sabertooth Z87 LGA 1150 Mark 1

GPU:
EVGA Superclocked 02G-P4-2765-KR GeForce GTX 760

RAM:
HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1866 240 Pin

Hard Drive:
Western Digital Green 2TB 64MB Cache 6.0Gb/s
WITH an Intel 530 series SSD 240GB SATA 3

Operating System:
Windows 8.1 64-bit-OEM

DVD Burner:
Samsung DVD Burner Model SH-224DB/BEBE

CPU Cooler:
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Wireless Network Adapter (PLEASE let me know if you know of any alternatives, I don't have ethernet in my room....):
PCI Wireless WiFi Network card adapter 300Mbps 802.11b/g/n + Antenna

Case:
Corsair Obsidian Series 450D Black ATX Mid Tower

So that's my build! As I said before, PLEASE let me know if you have any suggestions!

So....... I suppose I should put something here....

4690k, Z97, better GPU

also instead of getting a wireless adapter, buy a motherboard which has built-in wifi.

Drop CPU to i5 4690K, bring up motherboard to MSI Z97 MPOWER or Z97 Sabertooth Mark 1 and get a GTX 780 or R9 290. You will also need a PSU, which I would recommend the EVGA SuperNova G2 750W or Rosewill Capstone 750 M

Main Rig: CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) KLEVV CRAS XR RGB DDR4-3600 | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX | Storage: 500GB Crucial P3 Plus, 4TB Silicon Power UD90 | GPU: AsRock Radeon RX 9070 XT Steel Legend | Cooling: ThermalTake Floe 280mm w/ be quiet! Pure Wings 3 | Case: Sliger SM580 (Black) | PSU: Corsair SF850

Main Server: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | RAM: 64GB (2x32GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 | Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair VII Hero WiFi | Storage: 512GB SKHynix NVMe | GPUs: NVIDIA TITAN Xp 2-way SLI | Cooling: Thermalright Frozen Prism 360mm | Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow (White) | PSU: Seasonic Focus GM850

File and Media Server (AOOSTAR WTR Pro): CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5825U | RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) Silicon Power DDR4-3200 SODIMMs | Storage: 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 2x14TB Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC530

Haswell refresh processors should be used with a Z97 board instead of Z87. I would really think about the build when you have the money because factors about the build will probably change by the time you have it.

As for critiquing it right now:

i5 4690k, Z97, a 280x, WD Blue drive, 840 Evo instead.

As for networking, you can try a powerline adapter instead of wireless.

Looks ok however maybe putting a GTX770 in instead and going for a i5 4790k is a better idea (your choice). Also I would definitley get an external optical drive because that case looks god awful with the optical bays used. Also you might want to look at an SSHD instead of the 2TB Green (if not, go for a red).

@mrGOAB,

A number of suggestions. As others have mentioned an i5 is sufficient for gaming and a better gpu would make a big difference. I would also suggest a Z97 motherboard with on-board WiFi, less expensive memory, a newer model ssd, a better performing hdd, and better psu.

Hi there mrGOAB,

for a gaming build I could advise you to check out the WD Black hard drive. It has big capacity up to 4 TB, 7200 RPM and was designed as a maximum performance drive for gaming and more demanding applications. The WD Green drive on the other hand, would also do a great job, but it's mostly used as secondary storage for archiving and backuping. It has IntelliPower; special power management, quiet performance and reduced heat output, which makes it more reliable and soundless, but could also make it lack fast enough speed when too demanding programs and games are active.

The RAM and CPU are very good. Though, you could look into a smaller processor. If you want to overclock, then the CPU Cooler is a nice choice. Have you considered a liquid one? You could look into those as well.

Best of luck! :)

If you think I helped, like!  :P
