AMAZON RANT

Prime - Delivery

Having recently bought a new motherboard from amazon using there overpriced prime service (a service that allows free next day delivery - It costs £79 per annum. and if you don't want the added bonus of Amazon Instant Video you dont get money off) I expected my motherboard to arrive the next day as it said it would. It was sent via DHL and was not dispatched by amazon until 2 days later and then DHL took a further 2 days to deliver my parcel. I have always been a fan of amazons easy to open packaging and this is one of the reasons I will still persevere with the Amazon service - along with have just bought a crappy £79 postal service -  and luckily for them this motherboard came in the easy to open packaging.

Competitors

I have for a long time checked nearly every competitive service for prices and Amazon has for the last 5 years always been the cheapest. This built a confidence in me that the product I was buying with amazon would be legit and competitively priced compared to the specialist and competitors such as ebay. However this time I found the motherboard for £30 less elsewhere, now tell me why Amazon felt that they could rip me and everyone else off by £30 when a small number of relatively new up and coming businesses can afford to sell it for so much less.

Service

Recently I have signed up for a new email address due to the bewildering array of promotional emails Amazon have decided to send me. I complained about this but was unable how hard I tried to get my email remove from their mailing list even after unticking the boxes on Amazon. Now even if these promotional emails were for products related to my recent purchases I would complain about how harassed I felt. But the fact they were not at all related for example I had an email about 50% off My Little Pony merchandise.

Categories

Related items and categories are a complete and utter shambles in our day in age. For example the My Little Pony merchandise that was recommended under the category of Garden Hedges. Now if anyone would explain to me what the F*** you sell under the garden hedges category (being logical now). My motherboard was supposedly #1 in garden hoses. So are all items garden products now Amazon.

So you're mad because the bots are picking up your MLP fetish and are trying to sell you some of those kind of products?

Also, if DHL were 2 days late delivering a parcel, it's their fault, not Amazon. They hand it over to a "trusted" courier company, and they should've got it to you on time. Also, i presume you signed up for the free trial of Prime, only to quit after you got your order, just to skimp out on a delivery charge? :P

On a final note, they try to sell stuff at a reasonable price which still nets them a profit at the end of the day, it's a business after all. And if competitor manage to sell it for that bit less, then buy it from the cheaper retailer. Amazon are not trying to rip you off, you just happened to find another retailer who is willing to sell the item for less profit. You are the buyer and the decision of whom you go to for their services is up to you.

What? Ebay a competitor? Amazon is way more reliable than ebay.

Also there is a 'flag for spam' option to automatically send amazon emails to spam instead of your inbox.

Fair Enough I only labelled them as a competitor due to my regular use of their listings as a bargaining tool.

I understand About the emails thing but you can understand my frustration that Amazon even after calling them did not remove me or tell me this.

What time of day, and what day of the week did you place the order? Because if it's not the next-day prime delivery (they actually deliver on Sundays as well fyi) then they usually don't process orders the same day, if they are ordered after a certain hour, which is ~6pm i think.

I use Prime near daily and rarely ever have problems. Last week I paid for overnight and it came a day later... Contacted CS and they refunded the overnight charge and gave me an extra month of Prime for free. It was late because UPS had issues, not Amazon, and they still took care of it.

Amazon also price matches... Just contact CS and 9 times out of 10 they will lower the price within minutes.

I've never seen the category issues you are talking about.

Bit of slack from their end then. You could ring them up and bitch at them, but since you didn't pay for the delivery i don't think you'd get much, or any compensation. Maybe a £5 code/voucher off your next order?

You can try and use a silver tongue to get something out of it, other than that you can carry on as normal. No company can give a perfect customer experience everytime, flawlessly. Not every worker is perfect, and some people have bad days, computers cock up etc...

Is this in America or the UK?

Thanks for the info about price match I will be sure to use it in the future :)

I will Agree with that any I will be honest £5 doesnt really sound worth the hassle. I was very aggrieved but you guys have cleared up a few things and I will complain sooner to Amazon next time.

America, guess I never thought about that difference...

I doubt there is a huge difference its just Amazon doesnt use UPS in my area only DHL and another delivery firm which made me think.

I remember when i bought my 32GB USB 3.0 ram stick for £4 from Thailand, back when that was like the largest size you could get. Took 28 days to arrive, and works fine to this day, all because i didn't wanna spend like 5 time the price here in the UK. The wait was a bastard, but i got it in the end.

I ordered my mouse a day after my ethernet cable and they arrived at the same time the day after i ordered the mouse

I've had that happen a few times too, if I ever order several items I'll sometimes pay overnight on one of them and typically half of them show up the next day, just depends on what items come out of the same warehouse as the one you paid overnight on.

I hardly think your problem with the price is justified. Considering the money you can save on shipping costs, as well as taking advantage of the other services such as instant video it's almost a steal. Per year it's cheaper than netflix if you count instant video alone

If you aren't satisfied with a service, call them. Processing is not guaranteed, and if your shipment falls on a day where the carrier doesn't deliver it can take longer. Still, if you aren't satisfied, call them.

Amazon UK might be different with regards to e-mail. We only get 2 day shipping in the States for Prime, though sometimes it arrives sooner due to warehouse location. I don't receive promotional e-mails from them, even though I'm on Prime.

This is incorrect.  As a Amazon employee, we do not ship our products to customers using any other service than UPS, USPS, or FedEx.  You purchased something ON Amazon that was sold by someone else.  Also, it is NOT next day delivery, it is 2 day shipping is included in your order for free.  When you purchase your order it will tell you when your expected delivery date is, it DOES NOT correspond with your shipping methods.  For example, if you ordered something at 11:59PM don't expect it to come 36 hours later at 12 noon the next day.  We give you 3 hours to cancel your order, so we aren't even allowed to package your items until after that point.  Not only that, you have to consider that USP doesn't dispatch a truck just for your order, we fill up trucks, so your order could potentally spend about 2 hours on a truck before it even leaves the facility.  So if it only took us a hour to get your order together, already 6 hours has been eaten up (this is considering no one has orders before you).

Shipping time is totally different than delivery time.  Please stop your "rant" because it is unwarranted and invalid.

I don't think it's completely invalid though: you go to Amazon with prime with the 2 day delivery expectation but it's not immediately apparent if you're buying a 3rd party item. I have to carefully look to see who is actually selling me the item Amazon could make things clearer and save their customers the hassle

I am from the UK and service is clearly different here. I do not dispute what you are saying. I was just aggrieved that my product did not arrive at the time I had been told it would.
