So I work full time in a tech center and also go to school full time, but are there any additional ways you folks are making money (maybe tech related?) so I can fund PC builds a little bit faster? Just an odd question. I'd love to sink more money into this hobby but frankly I got bills to pay and money to set aside in case of emergency.

Ehm it's not really fast and all, but I make money by gold farming on a game and selling it to those people who resell it for a bit higher. I use a bot though, I don't farm myself

Calculated correctly, depending on the game's Economy, it makes me 8-12 EU/day doing nothing.

this isn't probably what you're looking for

Harvest data from the tech center and sell it

note this is very likely illegal, but you didn't specify any requirements

otherwise I doubt there's much more you can do that isn't really e-pyramid, slave labor, or not worth the effort.

stop buying food and mooch off your parents instead.

I repair other people's computers as a freelancer.

Of course, you need an "in" if you will. For example, my Aunt owns a business that is reliant on technology. She knows a great number of people in her area with the same type of business she runs. I am her IT guy. Word of mouth. Profit.

My cousin (her daughter) said something crazy like "the going rate is $85 an hour" and I was like "Bull Crap." Got me excited for the potential though. Plus, you do it on your own time. Obviously, full-time job + full-time student = less free time to spend on freelancing, but you'd be surprised how much people throw money at you when you do things like you are a voodoo Witch Doctor. It's great.

YMMV. This is just what I've experienced. It probably helps that my family is large and sociable. Like I said, it all starts with an "in". Someone to get you business.

Survey groups.  There are enough of them on the net that you can make cash from.  Yes sometimes the surveys are long but if you don't like it you don't have to fill it out.  I make $150 for sure per year doing surveys.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

I want to start doing this, but there is no small degree of trepidation when confronted with having to disassemble laptops that I am unfamiliar with.  might be I need to get more comfortable with it, or just need to man up and take the jump.  Probably both.  Think I'll throw caution to the wind and start putting the word out.  Fear profits man nothing afterall.

It's actually really easy once you realize that computers are no different than build-a-blocks. You just have to remember what goes where. I use my phone to take pictures as I disassemble so I can reverse the process.

Plus most laptops follow the same process. RAM/HDD/WiFi card panels on the back for easy access > screws for bottom shell removal > DVD drive being a pain to work around > removal of top part of shell (where the keyboard/touchpad are) > removal of monitor/keyboard/etc giving full access to the motherboard.

There are different technical things on the way, like how those components are directly connected to the motherboard (whether soldered, or what have you), but most of the time laptops are broken in a way that's not necessarily repairable. i.e. the motherboard is dead.

For example, my brother just gave me his laptop. It won't power on. It's not the PSU since the lights come on and the battery doesn't change anything whether it's plugged in or not. It's not the Display since the fan doesn't kick up, and it's not the RAM since I tested each slot and stick. Odds are, it's just dead. The HDD won't even spin. Now, all that's left to do is sell it for parts after getting the data off so others can repair their laptops. That's probably how it's going to be most of the time considering how most people treat their mobile devices. Good luck with that.

Fans are easy to replace mostly. Keyboards, not so much since they are like the last part of the bottom half to come off (bottom half meaning everything else besides the monitor). Obviously RAM/HDD/WiFi are the easiest to deal with. DVD drives are in between since it's literally in between those components.

Touchpads are a mystery to me as I've never had one be the only thing broken and needed replacing. Monitor can be difficult depending on exactly how it's connected to the motherboard (if it's soldered on, it's a pain) and it's usuallythe last thing to disconnect fully most of the time (after the Keyboard and everything else). Speakers are usually equal to dealing with as the Keyboard, and the Webcam comes with the monitor usually.

Obviously YMMV since some laptops are just going to be different, but that's what the internet and Youtube is for.
