Hi i just build a beats gaming pc. I have 2 gpu r9 290x. I will use my pc for gaming and editing on photoshop,cinema 4d, sony vegas after effect... I want to know which windows should I run ? 7? 8? or 8.1? Also if you guys have a tutorial on how to do partition and how to instal window from usb because i don't know how to do it, I allready have iso for 7 8 and 8.1

Some games run better on 8/8.1 but its pretty much the same

Yeah but it's a bit more optimised and when I meantioned Linux at the end it was in general... look at other distros like Arch Linux or DSL you're not gonna be gaming on those EVER. Maybe Ubuntu or Mint but not some of the more complex distros

go with 8.1, 7 will not be getting feature upgrades soon, only security updates after a few more months. this means no DX12 for WIn7

Your comments such as comparing to Arch and DSL, their inability to play games, "Maybe Ubuntu or Mint" and "complex distros" lead me to conclude that you are not well versed with Linux

Nope I'll happily admit that; But I've gamed on Ubuntu a couple times....I'm more of a Windows or MAC user not a linux kernal specialized software engineer or anything of the sort but gaming on them for MOST people would be much more difficult to the point even with my lack of depth in my knowledge I still feel comfortable saying that cause most people don't know the difference between kernals

I use win 7 since everything works on win 7, and i dont have any reason to upgrade.

That won't be true soon cause windows 7 isn't getting DX12 support

 

You don't need a different kernel than the distro default to install proprietary graphics drivers or Steam.

True but most people can't work there way around the more difficult to learn distros easily...

No those are probably the easiest; Arch Linux is probably the most difficult.

If those are the easiest than why "Maybe Ubuntu or Mint"?  And I disagree with Arch as both Steam and the proprietary video driver can be installed with a single command.

I meant you probably can game with Ubuntu or mint pretty easily but not more complex distros such as ARCH if you look at the statement and it's particular place inthe sentence it should've been pretty easy to tell I was listing distros from Hardest to Easiest and re affirmed it'd be difficult to use the harder ones, and yes you can but howmany people know that exact command on hand

Most current cards support DX12 already... I believe the 500 series does and the 6000 series too

This wont be true for years and years.

We're still stuck on DX9, and its only just last year that games FINALLY started coming out in DX11 support, like Tomb Raider, and it will take YEARS AND YEARS before DX12 becomes anything close to usage.

Plus the most popular games on earth are still only DX8/9.0+

If there's one thing that does move slowly in the PC gaming development side of things, its the adaption of new APIs

Debian. It's based on Debian, because it's more stable.

guys let's not try turn this into a "which linux is king" debate and answer the ops question

 

@BeastFromMontreal I like windows 8.1 myself, I do use startisback though. Then it's basically just win7 but a bit faster.

 

Some people say games run a little better on it also, I can't validate that.

I would go with windows 8.1 more for future proofing your gaming PC.
