Hey there, I currently have a Phenom ll x6 1090t and i think it's time to upgrade. I'm using a ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131877 And was that the FX series recently went on a price cut. I've had my eyes on the FX-9590 as a replacement and with the price drop i think i should grab it up. What's your opinions on it? I have a Corsair H80 but plan to upgrade to a Cooler Master Glacer 240L because that beast of a CPU and the possibility of expanding a GPU into a future loop.

Opinions?

Or a 4690K/Z97 G55/212 Evo.

@Killaconor it isn't really worth spending money to move to FX when the performance increase would be ~5% from K10 to Vishera. If you feel like upgrading I'd move to socket 1150 myself as there'd be significant gains there. So when you think about it Intel has better price/performance in this case as you spend a little more and could get ~90% more performance in some applications.

Get an FX-8350 instead.

That's what I did.

Phenom II X6 1090T @ 4.1GHz >>> FX-8350 @ 4.8GHz. Guess what, the FX-9590 comes stock clocked at 4.7GHz. My FX-8350 is already faster -- and with more headroom to overclock further.

You will be much better served by switching to Intel.  If all you do is game, pick up an i5.

just get an 8320/50 and overclock it with what you already got.

If you really want to upgrade go Intel, all these latest AMD FX line, all the new ones are just older ones but overclocked.  There is no point in upgrading.

Hey thanks everyone! I agree with most of you and will probably go with an FX-8320 or 50.

If you're willing to spend the money on an 8320 + watercooling, you are better off spending that money on an Intel processor.

What kind of games do you play?  Or do you do stuff more than gaming?

Wait till the price cuts and then get the 9590, that's what I'm doing.

Although it's only for the epeen, since I recently made the switch over to Intel

I say get the 9590, here's why, it is a cherry picked 8350 that WILL do 5ghz all day all night for years with no problem right outta the box. Your not running your chance of killing a 8320 or 8350 early by OC all the time... and not all 8350s do 5ghz. Most do 4.7ghz but a lot of them are hard to push faster.

Another thing, you sabor board isn't a "approved mobo" technically for a 9590. I believe only three mobo are, the asrock extreme 9, the asus crosshair V, and the the gigabyte ud7. this is because the three have the 8+4 power phase. The 9590 is huuuuunnngry, and you'll run the risk of burning out your mobo

So in short, just get a 8350 and OC it...  goes against some things I said, but how often does your cpu give out early compared to upgrading it before that happens..

Hey there again guys, I noticed a lot of people recommending doing an Intel switch but i'm perfectly content with my MoBo and just want to update the CPU and maybe the cooler. I mostly play BF4, Arma 3, DayZ, Payday 2, Fallout. Some of the games are really CPU intensive and i think the upgrade would be a welcome. I'm definitely going to wait until september. Just want some info on the different types. Now i'm leaning again for the 9590 lol

i would say get an FX8350, Offcourse the unlocked haswell i5 / i7's are better for gaming.

But for topic starter it does not realy make much sense to switch to Intel at the moment.

The reason in my opininnion is simple, since op has a realy nice AMD mobo, if he gets a FX8350, he can still be happy the upcomming 2/3 years.

Then he can allways looks at unlocked skylake in 2016.

Jumping to intel now, will give him a performance gain in some games, but still this depends from game to game.

Games like arma, dayz, lol, skyrim. yes he will see an improvement, but games like bioshock, tombraider, crysis3. there will be not much of a diffrence so yeah, its a bit depending on the games he is playing in general.

I think its not worth it. to switch to intel i5 right now.

Unless he isn´t satisfied with the performance of the amd in the games he likes.

But i would save the cash, and grab a FX8350, and maybe a better GPU. (depending on what gpu you currently have)

And be happy the upcomming 2 years.

If you want to overclock and get good performance and bang for buck get an 8350!!! its amazing, mine is at 5Ghz.

The 9590 is amazing too but need custom water cooling lol

The 8320 and under is not so good for intensive games but depends on your budget. My friends have the 8320 but my 8350 smokes it.
