Hey guys,

I posted this photo on this thread and it had me wondering... Anyone still remember the AGP slot and what did you put in it?

I will not giggle at the words "what did you put in it?", I will not giggle at the words "what did you put in it?", I will not... damnit.

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.

Yea. I have a good half dozen mobos with AGP.

I remember reading a book about building PCs when I was building my first one from scratch (2008) and it recommended board with AGP (was a bit out of date). And I went to some pretty insane efforts to find an AGP board and card before I figured out it was obsolete.

I swear i've still got some of my old cards laying around somewhere. I think i've got 2 Voodoo cards, an MX-400 & 7600GT.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

Ahh, AGP. The best GPU I can lay my hands on in the house that's AGP is a 7600GT that gets juiced by a 4-pin Molex (since it's otherwise a 5V card set for a 3.3V slot). VGA/D-Sub, DVI & 7-pin S-Video output.

I remember the fun running that and my PCie 9400GT in an ASRock P4S8X (DDR1/DDR2 cross-gen, max 2GB of either as a pair of 1GB sticks) since that board could run a combo of AGP/PCI, PCi/PCIe or AGP/PCIe video cards (actually, maybe even all 3 at once, if you were crazy enough xD).

Sounds like an interesting motherboard...

Aye, t'is a memory-crossover P4 motherboard that was a little beauty for its time.

If a cross-gen DDR1/2 + AGP/PCIE existed, hopefully we'll see a DDR3/4 cross-gen...

Sadly we wont, there's enough differences between DDR3 & DDR4 that to use one or the other it's an "All or Nothing" situation, since mobo manufacturers don't exactly like doing things that increase the complexity of their PCB's for little net gain nowadays for things such as cross-generation memory support. Besides, if they stick to an all-or-nothing when it comes to support for things like memory, they can get extra cash out of you for buying a new board along with that new RAM - it's common business practice, and good for their bank balances in the long run.

Keep in mind that the ASRock board I mentioned was during the hey-day of Pentium 4's and was basically a transition point into DDR2 before the Core 2 items really kicked off.

I totally remember AGP and I remember going on over and over again on the NCIX message boards I believe that I didn't need anything more than my GeForce4 MX 440 for the longest time. LOL

.. and then I got the Leadtek 6800NU and my mind was blown!  OMG Doom 3 looked awesome.

http://forums.ncixus.com/forums/topic.php?id=1125004

Many moons ago in NCIX forums discussing AGP cards and I see that I sold my Leadtek 6800NU I guess but I don't remember how much I got for it or why I sold it.  LOL

Ah the good old days before I was banned.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S
