File Size Question

So i know that a Megabyte is 1000 Kilobytes, a Gigabyte is 1000 Megabytes and a Terabyte is 1000 Gigabytes.
What i wonder is what are Kilobits, Megabits and so on? Is there a difference? 
I know i could google this but this forum actually seems more reliable than google for me

1 Megabit is 1000 Kilobits, just like 1 Megabyte is 1000 Kilobytes.

 

But it takes about 8 Megabits to equal 1 Megabyte.

Bits are usually referred to as internet speed, for every 8 kilobits, there are 1kiloBYTE, so on and so forth. so AFAIK there are 8bits in one byte

 

So a file you're downloading is 100megabytes, to download that file in one second, you would need a connection speed of 800mbitperseond speed, I believe.

Dial-up, ADSL 1, ADSL 2/2+, Gigabit Ethernet) and is used for data transfer speeds, whilst the capital K/M/G/T (KB/MB/GB/TB) is combined with a capital B for Bytes. Occasionally do you see the capital size prefix combined with a small b, but I don't personally think that's a standard way of referring to either bits or bytes, though I could be wrong.

 

So, for example, my new 4TB (TeraBytes) Seagate Barracudas transfer data at upto 6gbps (gigabits per second) over their SATA III (3) connections. That 6gbps is a max speed of around 750MB/sec (or a CD's worth of data every second).

S'okay man, we all forget things like that occasionally, I just manage to keep it in my active memory since I often have to figure out how effing long it'll take for me to upload something to a place like Youtube on my cruddy 1500kbps down/384kbps up (1.5mbps down/0.384mbps up)  ADSL 1 connection. >.>

I now understand why steam games only download at about 1Mbps even though I supposedly have a 10Mbps connection. Grrrrrr......
