Everyone who thinks it doesnt affect them because they dont live in CA think again. A phone maker will not have a separate batch of phones just for CA. They will make all their phones comply with the strictest standards because its easier/cheaper to have one phone that can be sold everywhere compared to 2-3 phones that can only be sold in some places. A large company like apple with its headquarters in CA may actually end up putting this on all their devices in North America or even worldwide. This same phenomenon can be seen with cars. CA has some of the strictest standards for vehicle emissions and most of these standards can be seen on every car in the US and even Canada because its easier/cheaper to have just one car that meets all the standards.

You can imagine the same thing happening to other products like phones. Here is a quote from wiki:

California's emissions standards are set by the California Air Resources Board, known locally by its acronym "CARB". Given that California's automotive market is one of the largest in the world, CARB wields enormous influence over the emissions requirements that major automakers must meet if they wish to sell into that market. In addition, several other U.S. states also choose to follow the CARB standards, so their rulemaking has broader implications within the U.S. By mid-2009, 16 other states had adopted CARB rules.[2] CARB's policies have also influenced EU emissions standards. source

Thanks for injecting politics into this. Clearly this can't just be a bipartisan issue.

Democrats are not liberal. They are moderate leaning right at the moment.

Facism is the right, socialism is the left, both are the same thing, a few wanting to control the many. It was a bipartisan insult at the government.

That's false equivalency. Ideal socialism has no leader whatsoever. In general going from left to right means more restrictions and regulations. As you go farther left, in theory government interference in personal rights is reduced, and law is enforced by social contracts and societal norms rather than false power structures.

I don't like the government either, but I'd much rather be living under a socialist government than a fascist one. Currently we're neither though, we're somewhere in between that is somehow worse than both polls.

Ideal socialism would have no government, living under a "socialist" government is essentially the same thing as facism, please see: Every socialist society ever. They all do the same thing, intrude upon and trample upon personal rights "for the good of the whole"

My point is that we need to dispence with the idea of elected officials (or government as a whole) and simply have a true democracy, majoritarian rule.

They always use something "good" to pass something more evil. It reminds me of the telecommunications reform in Mexico (the main topic was promoting competition but it allowed the government to spy and shut down communications).

Only because their economy has been succesful thus far, when that dries up (and it will, it always does), the same thing that always happens, will happen. The problem with socialism is you always run out of other people's money.

You have no data to support that claim, and considering they've been doing it for nearly 70 years, I strongly doubt what you say is true.

Every socialist society other than them, has either failed economically, or resorted to extreme measure's to avoid it. Try actually looking up your history. I'm admit I know nothing about Scandinavian law, but as far as I am concerned any society where gun ownership by private citizens is illegal, is already a facist/socialist/totalitarian hell hole because it puts the government in a position to EASILY do whatever the hell it wants to it's own people. Just because they haven't done it yet, doesn't mean they wont.

This is wrong, I see no legitamite use for government to be able to kill switch someones phone. If the phone is stolen and the owner wish to kill it, they should be capable of that, but the government and police should have absolutely no right or ability what-so-ever to do this. They already have cell phone jammers to begin with.

Just because people have guns doesn't mean the government can't still control its citizens. Do you see a well regulated militia marching up to the Capitol and demanding radical changes in our laws? No. All the smoke and mirrors about guns giving us more freedom is bullshit, the government still walks all over us. Moreover, we kill so many people with the guns we have it's almost tragic you think they're protecting our freedom.

You'll have to prove that they will before I believe you. You can't invert the assertion and say I don't know that they won't. I also don't know that they won't all float up into the sky tomorrow, but that doesn't make your assertion any more true.

I know my history very well. Well enough to know that Trotskyist or Leninist communism would have been far more effective than Stalin's approach to calling his government communist while secretly converting it into state capitalism and siphoning off the profits.

You really need to get some education dude. Our guns don't keep us free, they keep us equal. Whatever politicians may or may not do, in the backs of their minds they will always have the thought "better not push 60 million armed people too far". Please do some actual reading outside of your socialist professor's approved reading list.

You're just going full on ad hominem now. This argument ends here, you don't actually have anything to say, you're just parroting back NRA and Republican party lines.

I do not think so, since I'm an pro firearm to the same degree as pro tech, its extremely therapeutic to shoot at long range metallic silhouette ranges, as well as very satisfying, only a shame there ain't a bigger community for it in sweden.

There are some positive to this add-on like remember the Boston Marathon bombing. Police can use this to turn off all phone so terrorists can't use their phone to detonate a remote bomb.
