"How many watts do I need"? Check Here!

Aniallation

Overpriced? The EVGA you recommended was like 125$ and the Corsair ones are 98$

I don't know how much this helps you http://www.pcgarage.ro/surse/ but it's the PSU page from my retailer (it's a Romanian one).

I can read interpret it fine lol

http://www.pcgarage.ro/surse/cooler-master/gm-series-g650m-650w/ or  http://www.pcgarage.ro/surse/seasonic/m12ii-520-evo-edition-bronze-520w/

Both are better choices for the money then CX or CS (respectively)

I appreciate your effort in helping me :D I'll go with the http://www.pcgarage.ro/surse/cooler-master/gm-series-g650m-650w/

Most likely I will buy the 960 because I don't have any ways of getting enough money for the 970. I hope it will work just fine at 1920x1080.

Thank you very much again :)

As stated above, go for a i5 4690K instead of a i7, then you can more easily afford a 970. Or go for AMD 290X/390

Would a OCZ 750W be suitable for SLI 980Tis? (no overclocking, no hdds, 4690k and a pci ssd)

No, it's not enough. It's really only a 480W which is not enough for 390, and PSU is not that good quality.

Now I'm confused can I do it or not?

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay, maybe a really easy question for some, but I have no idea to do the numbers so I was wondering if someone could give me a helping hand:

I want to do some serious overclocking on my FX-8320 processor. I am currently only done some small tweking with it so it runs at a solid 4.1ghz, but I want to push it even more. I have a pretty solid Enermax Liqmax II 120s water cooler that I know from experience can by ease handle the temps... my worries are with the PSU.

This is my system:

Motherboard: Asus m5a97 r2.0

Cpu: AM3+ FX8320

Graphics cards: 2 Sapphire R9 270x Toxic in crossfire and their stock coolings

Ram: 4x4gb DDR3 2133mhz

Hard drives: 1 Adata SX900 SSD and 4x3,5 7200 hard drives

Cooling: 6 12v 120mm fans in a fan controller and the Enermax Liqmax II 120s cpu cooler with it's 2 120mm fans.

PSU: a Corsair 650w with a +80 bronze

So my big question is: is my PSU able to handle me overclocking the CPU to about 4.4ghz? I wouldn't be so worried about it really if it weren't for the 2 Sapphire R9 270x Toxic I have in crossfire already being OC from stock, and me also having a lot of additional hardware compare to the average guy. I will let the 2 graphics card run at their normal speed, because I haven't seen any big leaps on the web if I were to try to over clock them as well.

I will not have the money for a new PSU for a long time, but I don't want to damage anything by overloading my set because that can become even more expensive in the end...

So what do you guys think, can I over clock my CPU and my assumption on how much power my two graphics cards are actually consuming way of  or should I wait until I can buy a bigger PSU?

It's not about the wattage but about the actual quality. 650W is definitely enough, but if it's a 650W 80+ Bronze from Corsair chances are it's a TX or one of the first HXs, which are quite old and would have aged to the point where I wouldn't exactly trust them for full load.

Hm... I have had it for about 4 years so yeah it is pretty old... but it has never failed me once, so that atleast makes out the quality of it... but like you said, it is old... so if I started to really over clock the CPU it will really cut close to the limit then?

Yeah, you could go for overclocking but I wouldn't recommend it until you get a new PSU, especially with CF 270X if you're looking to overclock those too.

Are you planning any upgrades in the future for your PC?

As it stands right now, this will be more then enough for your build: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-ea380dgreen

However, if you plan to upgrade GPU later on to something more powerful, I'd suggest this power supply for better headroom:

Don't go for the 500B, it's really nothing special.

Well isnt it like when you play games etc etc pc parts consume more watts ?

Yeah but the 960 is a very efficient card.
