Which to get?

Go to solution Solved by bsaeagle5,

Yes this should be fine as long as you only use one graphics card it only has one 6 pin and one 8 pin so you wont be able to use it in sli with an old card but should be fine if you are only powering the 780. If you decide in the future to upgrade your power supply,   EVGA power supplies are relativity inexpensive compared to other high end power supplies and they come with a 10 year warranty so they are a good option on a budget or for any build.

EVGA Power 850 watt power supply

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438018

Am confused between these cards

MSI R9 290

483$

MSI GTX 780

560$

ASUS GTX 780

587$

ZOTAC GTX 780

560$

GIGABYTE GTX 780 but i kinda don't like gigabyte so i may say no

566$

And am gunna be running two monitors 1 23" 1080p and the other a 20" 1600X900

R9 290 $483? I hope that is canada/AUS since it's only $399,99 on the US pcpartpicker for the Sapphire Tri-x R9 290 which is the best of the lineup.

i would choose the MSI R9 290, due to having similar performance at a considerably lower cost, where the saved money can be spent on getting better other parts if its a new build, or getting another upgrade if its already built.

I have my eye on the 780's as they are cooler and have lower noises

If it's possible to get the Sapphire Tri-x R9 290. If not possible I would get the MSI R9 290 or (if you want the perks of Nvidia) MSI GTX 780. MSI is a good brand for anything IMO.

mm i can get the Toxic 290 but the only prob is that my case won't fit a card that big :(

I was also thinking of getting the ASUS 780 for better cooling and lower noise as it also OCes better and has a backplate (incase i needed to oc)

but Meh i dk man

Are you just getting the card just for gaming or also other applications  and what's your current system build? If you just want a card for gaming go with a GTX 770 or R9 290. But if you want a gtx 780 for cuda applications go with this one from asus. For comparison the gtx 770 is about 10%-30% more powerful than the last generation 680. What ever you do don't get Zotac or PNY anything.

A 660 slightly overclocked can get you 60 fps with setting turned all the way up in almost any game. What's your CPU and are you building a new system or upgrading an older one?

I5 4670K--4690K if found

8 GB ram

620W Seasonic PSU

Z87 or if i found a decent MSI or ASUS Z97 here i would get it

They are actually pretty good card manufacturers.

So really either will play all games at 60fps but I would go with the 780 there are more perks offer such as game stream with nvida shield, gpu boost 2.0,runs cooler, shadow play and cuda acceleration. The R90 290 runs real hot even with the msi cooler can get up to and over 95 degrees compared to the gtx 780 max temp of 60 degrees. what's your case cooling situation like? If you have poor airflow with in the case a reference 780 with a blower styled cooler will perform better than any other option.

If your CPU has a liquid cooler go with the ASUS 780 but if it's a heat sink and fan go with the stock 780 because you will get the best performance out of your card. Because that case does not appear to have good airflow and the extra out putted heat could damage components and make you card and cpu run into a thermal throttling problem which is were components run slower to effectively preserve them selves and your system might even shut down if your components get to hot. But your right your case looks awesome

With 2 monitors, I'd get the one with more VRAM. The 780 IIRC has 3 GB and the 290 has 4 GB.

On the other hand, the 780 is good at running well under high load. So actually I'm divided on this issue.

I get 60 frames at 1080p on a dual core APU. Ask me how.

AMD FX 8350 CPU / R9 280X GPU / Asus M5A97 LE R 2.0 motherboard / 8GB Kingston HyperX Blue 1600 RAM / 128G OCZ Vertex 4 SSD / 256G Crucial SSD / 2T WD Black HDD / 1T Seagate Barracude HDD / Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU / Coolermaster HAF 922 Case
