Do phone cases cause overheating?

I am considering getting a Spigen Ultra Hybrid case for my HTC One M8 because I don't want the beautiful design to get scratched. However I've heard that cases trap lots of heat and cause overheating, battery drain etc. Is this true?

It will cause the phone to get a little warmer, yes.

So...you have a beautifully designed phone...but you want to cover it up and never look at it?

With a slim design like that i couldnt imagine it would be an issue even all that is true. i use an htc dot view case on mine and have had zero issues in terms of heat or battery life.. i still make it a day and a half sometimes two days depending on how busy i am.

It depends on the material. I got a Kevlar plastic Motorola RAZR that gets pretty warm in a case.

The case that you chose shouldn't cause it to overheat as it seems to be thin and the polycarbonate on the back should be thin enough to prevent the phone from building up heat. I think overheating issues would be for cases which are mostly made out of rubber/TPU.

Get Dash Clock widget it shows your battery temp and other stuff as well if you get high temps just shove your phone in a freezer for a minute and take t out works every time .. It's my hyper 212 evo for phone.

Dude look at the case it shows off the phone really well :)

Unless they've found out some awesome way to seal it in...it's going to get grungy and mighty ugly under that clear case.

If it's a crappy chinese phone (which can run hot) in a crappy case, then yes it could overheat... I've seen my MediaTek-based tablet throttle hard (not that it matters since shit's slow as fuck and the throttling made it freeze on the spot) because of this...
