23" Triple monitor 1080p gaming graphics card

    I have decided to make my own gaming PC for the first time, and am having some problems picking parts. I need a graphics card that allows me to game across three 23" monitors, at 1080p with as high a frame rate as possible (at least 30 FPS). I also don't have a very large budget and would like it to be under $400 if possible. The one I am thinking of getting is a refurbished GeForce GTX 680. Would this be able to support everything I want, or is there something else I should consider.

290, 780, 290x, 780ti, all will work but you will need to play at medium settings if you want to get playable fps.

if you only have $400 you should not be looking to game on triple monitor surround.

$400 is no where near enough for a decent experience over 3 screens. Also I am guessing you are new to PC? aim for 60 fps, when using a mouse 30fps just isn't enough.

Ok, from the general consensus, it looks like I should go for something better. However, because of my current price range, would I be able to get one 680 for now, and then when I can, get another one and use SLI? Also, I have been in the PC area for a long time, I just haven't had anything that was powerful enough to go 60 with good settings so I got used to 30 FPS. Thanks for all the help so far.

Not sure why you'd go for a 680. For a decent experience at a moderate price aim for 280x crossfire, or 290 crossfire.

Don't get a 680, it's still a good card only if you have one already but buying one today is just not a wise decision. It's only has 2GB of VRAM and will become obsolete quite soon. Especially since you are planning on playing @ 5760x1080. If you want a good experience, get a refurbished GTX 780 for $440 or a R9 290 for $400.

good choice. I have a single r9 290 for my eyefinity setup, and it works fine.  A second 290 would help, but even with only one, I'm still able to run most games at medium to high settings at a playable frame rate.

290 is a good choice. Don't expect it to game well on 3 monitors though - not even 780ti can do that.

At the least, not on high settings.  If you haven't already bought the 3 monitors - considering getting one  of the LG ultra wide screens; or play on a TV.

Ok, so I will get a second one whenever I have enough money, but one sounds like it should do for now.
