Why are these Monitors so popular? How good are they really?

Cheap and semi decent, for the money they are an ok option

Have you got a freq. graph?  They are quite well regarded in an industry that usually has it's head up it's arse as far as brand snobbery goes.

I haven't heard them but I have heard the truths from berry and I am told they are just as good if not a little better.

I own the KRK Rokit 6s. Thing is you can often find them used for a great deal. Not worth it for full price. Used, and the price can drop quite a lot because of how many people have it. They're decent speakers for the price, but not outstanding, I don't think. They're a little bit like the ATH M50x: Popular, decent option that's a bit too mainstream to the point where it's a little annoying, but a competent product nonetheless.

If you're quite serious about your mixing I've go with Yamahas and skip the Rokit tier alltogether, yeah. Some people are just starting out though, or don't care all that much I guess.

please do not buy them!

those were my first monitors and I truly made a mistake there.

1. no idea why people call them studio monitors and 2. over powering lows while being a 5" woofer, just terrible.

edit: now i got the hs7, you might take a look at these aswell.

Orly? I got the 6s and I felt the bass was lacking, so I hooked it up to my Logitech z2300 sub. Bass is not as high quality but there's finally enough to make me happy. And I'm not a particular bass head (HD800 fan). I took the speakers away from the corner of the room and the bass tamed.

i want a pair of speakers like this around the same price that i can connect to my pc

They do connect to a PC. Might have to use RCA to 3.5mm adapter but that's like $2. The Audioengine A5 is a good competitor to the Krk Rokit 6s, but if we factor in Rokits being more easily found online used, you can probably get a better deal with Rokits. But if you're buying new, I'd go with Audioengines. Just my opinion.

Well if you live in UK you might have a harder time getting those cheap Rokits. Audioengine is slightly out of your price range, but if you wait you can probably find one around that price used on Amazon... I wouldn't ever get Rokits for full price.

rokit=uk=cheap

edit: i am not saying uk is cheap, viceversa, it's noble. the rokits are cheaper over there because its domestic product.

I would get the audioengine, really nice from what i know. Don't buy rokits, they are terrible in their purpose of being a studio monitor and since you dont even need that flat response, as you just want high quaity bookshelf speakers i guess, I would go for audioengine a5+ ,or wavemaster two incase your budget is not enough for the audioengine.

what?

It reads to me like you are suggesting he doesn't need them because he doesn't want a flat response and the rokits have overpowering lows so they aren't flat but then he also shouldn't get them because they are a studio monitor and so are flat and that's also something he doesn't want.   Really confusing.  ether they're flat or they're not, and whether the OP wants flat is up to the OP.  Although I'd wager seeing as most good speaker designs are to be flat, that it is a better bet than a plastic fantastic no mids mini hifi.

that is not what i have said dude. rokits are bad for studio use, and because he does not aim at having a homestudio setup anyways he shouldn't even take those things into consideration and rather take a look at the audioengines. ding ding ding?

maybe because my english is not 10/10 hence you did not understood what i meant.

In conclusion, trying to be as accurate as possible: 1.Rokits are, imo afterall, not the monitors to go for when studio-build. 2. because you are not planning a homestudio anyways I ssuggest not buying monitors whatsoever, rather go for nice bookshelf speakers, to avoid problems with setting monitors up, their hissing and noise issue etc etc. I hope this is not as confusing as the first try.

how do you set monitors up that it's an issue or difficult? they're just speakers like all others, only difference is some only accept a balanced in.
