Help identifying laptop?

Keudn

I am away from home on vacation and am using my moms laptop. I installed some easy to run steam games but even they are struggling sometimes to run. The laptop has an Nvidia Geforce sticker, however it is running integrated graphics and there isn't even Nvidia drivers installed on it. The auto detect on the nvidia website can't find it and geforce experience says there isn't a graphics card in the laptop, but there is a sticker -.-. I can't even find the exact model online to see if it actually does have a nvidia graphics chip in it. Here is the info I got from under the battery, if anyone can help identify what it is and if it has an actual graphics chip in it that would be great!

HP Envy 15 Notebook PC

Serial: 5CG3301MGM

Model: 15t-j000

Rev: 1960-100

The laptop does not have a touchscreen

I5-3230M

8GB RAM (i think that was upgraded though when it was bought off HPs website)

672GB drive space total (so I assume its a 750GB? that seems like an awful lot taken off though)

1920x1080 screen

- i7-2600k @ 4.7GHz - MSI 1070 8GB Gaming X - ASUS Maximus V Formula AC3 Edition - 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws @ 1600Mhz - Corsair RM1000 - 1TB 7200RPM Seagate HDD + 2TB 7200 HDD + 2x240GB M500 RAID 0 - Corsair 750D - Samsung PX2370 & ASUS ROG SWIFT -

Press the windows button or start menu and search dxdiag and it will show what graphics there are.

The HP Envy you mentioned has GT 740m 2GB apparently.

Device manager?

Press the windows button or start menu and search dxdiag and it will show what graphics there are.

It only says Intel graphics 4000 :/

The HP Envy you mentioned has GT 740m 2GB apparently.

It makes sense because they dont stick geforce stickers on laptops without the laptop having a card in it, but thrs no drivers installed for it and geforce experience and the nvidia website both think there isnt a card in it :/

Device manager?

Nothing useful in there that will help identify it

There usually is something in device manager under display adapters that will tell you what GPU is in the computer. Does it in my laptop and desktop. But whatever you say.

I finally finished downloading the 700m series drivers off nvidias website (slow internet -_-) and they tell me it cant find compatible hardware. I'll give your link a shot

edit: the driverscape link didnt find any nvidia hardware either, only a intel graphics driver update.. :/

Weird... Are you sure there is a chip in there? Have you checked the bios? Weird it wouldn't show up in device manager.

Bios is the most stripped down POS ive seen, it tells you nothing other than boot order, cpu, and installed memory, didn't mention intel graphics let alone discrete.

I can't find anything about this chip other than the sticker on the laptop, surely they didn't misplace the sticker?

Download geforce experience? See if it picks it up then. Gpu-z maybe?

geforce experience does the same as the driver itself, it tells me there is no compatible hardware, gpu-z only detects the integrated graphics

I really think there is no chip in your computer. Even if you uninstall GPU, device manager will pick it up. Or maybe it is loose?

This is the closest I can find to the laptop http://hpnotebook.shameri.com/2014/06/20/good-price-hp-envy-touchsmart-15t-j000-select-c8p46av-15-6-i5-3230m-6gb-1tb-ssd-hybrid-full-hd-w8-ultrabook-save-now/

It has the same shell and cpu, but has 6gb of ram (but my laptop could very well have been upgraded to 8gb when it was bought) and has a 1tb sshd which I know this doesn't have, and it has a touchscreen which i dont have
