Adding RAM (help)

I just have a few questions for clarification too.

 

As of now i have 8gb ram(G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB Dual 1600 CL9) i want to upgade to 16gb ram. do i just buy another 8gb ram(G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB Dual 1600 CL9) so i would get 16gb in total? or do need to buy a completely new ram sticks that is 16gb worth?

 

here is my PC specs so you guys would at least know what im dealing with:

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5Ghz Black Edition

MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P

RAM: G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB Dual 1600 CL9

GPU: Sapphire R9-280X Dual-X OC 3GB GDDR5 384bit

Go for another 8GB set with the same specs (same speed, CAS etc.) And you'll be fine.

If you buy a dual-channel 8 GB set identical to your current one and combine them, it will work perfectly. Just buy another identical pack and you'll be good to go.

Not sure about the Ripjaws line, but for the Sniper line, a fair amount of customers had issues buying secondary kits to go from 8GB to 16GB and G.Skill themselves even responded with get a 16GB instead. That incompatibility issue some customers had and that attitude has caused me to stop using G.Skill nor recommend them to anyone. Again, this was for the Sniper series and in theory, using similar spec from another kit shouldn't give any issue at all.

 

This is someone who used to have 8GB of G.Skill sniper and went with a 16GB kit from Mushkin when I wanted to double my ram.
