1440p Monitor + GTX 760 2GB?

Grayson Stonyhammer
Go to solution Solved by Admiaczking,

technically yes, you can run a 1440p monitor on a single 760 but you won't be getting acceptable performance.

I am curious if a single EVGA GTX 760 2GB superclocked Video Card will be able to handle a 2560x1440p Monitor with games such as Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, Watch Dogs, Tomb Raider, and next gen titles at Ultra settings.

Of course since I am playing at a higher resolution I will not need to have Anti-Aliasing too high, which is very performance costly. So with AA off and Graphics and everything else on Ultra will I be able to play games with decent fps? 45+ fps.

bf4 with 4xmsaa all maxxed out 1440p on my 770 is not reaching playable framerates for me(60+ or nothing). Turning down to 2xMSAA i can get 60 fps but it dips very often.

And it's 770 not 760 so you might have an idea waht to expect from your 760.

you could play 1440p on medium, depending on what game high on a 760 with no anti aliasing and things like that

So lets just assume. I have a 760, I turn it down to FXAA (since it's the fastest AA, Or I can go with MSAA 2x) with everything ultra, you get average 60 fps, so I'll get about an average of 45-50 fps with occasional dips? Since the 760/770 aren't TOO far off, only about a 10-15 fps difference. Plus I can from consoles, so anything 40+ fps is decent for me. Although I do understand how superior 60+ fps is.

R9 290 was designed for 1440p

A raw estimate is 770=15fps faster than 760. You can definitely play with decent frames if you turn down AA and some other stuff too. But AA has to be turned down in good looking games.

If you want 1440p you'll need to sort your GPU situation out a bit. I'd recommend you do one of the following:

 - Get another 760. Performance will be roughly equal to a single 290x

 - Sell the 760 and upgrade to a 780/290, or a single 280x and save for a second one later. That is unless you can get two 280x's right now.

760 is ok for 1080p but is absolutely shit for 1440p. The card is underpowered and it has so little VRAM.

I'm in the boat guessing not ultra. Maybe the medium area, but with that said I don't have any personal 1440p experience yet. I will be throwing my 760 SLI at the ASUS Rog Swift monitor though when I get the chance.

Never say it's not broken. Everything is broken. Why? Because everything needs MOAR POWA!

Back when I was planning on building a whole new rig the first thing I purchased was my 1440p monitor and at the time I was running a 7870 overclocked to 1250mhz and ran every game I had at max settings above 40fps as long as I left aa off.. I was actually quite surprised to see such results....

760 is good for 1080p but on 1440p you wont get more than 30-35 fps in these games...

Plus the 2gb video buffer could bottleneck the card on 1440p

So every one is saying that my Video Card can't play games on Ultra with AA turned down (to FXAA or possibly lower, since I won't need AA), and not get above 40 fps?

Just wan't to be 100% clear, because I don't care for 60fps. Anything above 40 is suitable for me.

Nope. Try Medium(maybe high with no AA and a couple other setting tweaked) xD and before you ask no a 4GB 760 won't help

I play on a 760 @ 1440p and play at pretty good settings @ 60fps (medium highish).

Just turn off the AA and dial down a setting or two. I notice no negative difference between gaming at 1080p and 1440p on my 760.

Thanks for all the answers guys. I would much rather enjoy playing at ultra @60fps with a 1080p monitor, than medium @40fps with a 1440p monitor. :D
