good cheap cpu under $100 ?

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

how many displays can it support? and what are some examples it will be able to do?

you still need a graphics card to go along as the onboard GPU of the pentium is very weak, it cost about the same as the athlon you picked but the pentium is only a dual core where the athlon is a quad-core but the cores of the pentium are quite a bit faster so both chips perform about the same in games and daily tasks...i would still prefer the athlon 760K over the G3258 because if you're a novice the athlon out of the box perfom better being clocked at 3.8ghz where the pentium at 3.2ghz so you HAVE to overclock the pentium to match the stock athlon in most cases...it's your pick really but i feel a quad-core is better for now and for the future as opposed to a dual core chip even if the cores are faster...

If you intend to play a lot of MMO's and RTS games (single and dual threaded games mostly) then the Pentium should be your pick and if you want to play more modern stuff (battelefield, farcry, tomb raider etc.) then the athlon is better.

Hello,

I am new to forms and i would appreciate your responses. I have been wanting to build a pc but i have some limitations to build this pc. I want to build this pc under $250, but if its too low $350 might be ok. I will be using this computer to do basic internet tasks, basic video and photo editing and some very light gaming. I have had the most trouble finding a good cpu. I don't want to spend more than $100 on a cpu. I have been looking at the Intel Pentium Processor G3258. i was mostly brought to it by the price being $70 and the unlocked featured. I know there are a lot more than just this cpu but there are just too many to sort. I would greatly appreciate it if you would recommend a cpu and maybe some other parts to go along with it or maybe some other forms, videos, articles.....

I have been searching for a cpu for more than a month. thank you for your time and responses. :D

*edit

What apu's would you recommend?

thank you so much for responses!

edit: for my build the os, and accessories such as a monitor are not part of the price.

the Pentium is a great CPU choice and you can upgrade to a full quad core later when you use the Z97 or H97 boards

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

um yes the g3258 will be kick ass if you overclock it

if you want to build under 250$ then a amd apu will be good too, if this build is for gaming

I was gunna recommend the G3258 but if you have no GPU, look at some AMD APUs

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

For a 350$ machine i highly doubt that you have the budget for both a CPU and a GPU, so you have basicaly no choice than looking at an A8 or A10 AMD APU...

I will suggest for you a full build for 350$ not including the OS or any peripherals or monitor soon.

EDIT: this is the best i could do for 350$, this will run most games at acceptable framerate on medium/low settings, for other light tasks (web browsing and stuff) it's perfect:

I have a feeling you'd be best off with either the A10 5800K if it's going cheap or an A10 6800K.

@i_build_nanosuits build is very good value for your usage.

hows the graphics performance on the AMD A10-5800K, can it handle 3 monitors

It can as long as you don't intend to run things like battlefield 4

I'm going to guess that it'll depend on the motherboard and how many display ports it has; in addition I don't think gaming on all 3 monitors will be very good, but it should, theoretically, handle light gaming on one and other light tasks on the others Ok-ish.

is the cpu strong enough to support a $100 graphics card in the future so i can use the triple monitor set up with medium or high settings

What resolution will this be at?

Also created this build, is slightly over budget by ~ $20 but it will perform decently when paired with an R7 240 or R7 250

Build

By perform decently I mean you should get just over 30fps on high at 1080p with some tweaks to shadows and things. For triple monitor you would be looking at low settings at 30fps at 720p; 1080p would be pushing it.

Found this Powercolor R7 250 it may perform better as it is using 2GB GDDR5 VRAM (other R7 250 are using GDDR3) which will may allow you to play on three monitors, maybe at 1080p; it's around $100.

*If you decide to use this build make sure you set the Memory at 1866mhz in the bios otherwise dual gpu will not work.*

This one has a better iGPU if I am not mistaken and will allow you to Hybrid Crossfire with the R7 250; whereas the A10 5800K can only hybrid crossfire with the 6670, which is not as good as the r7 250 I have linked. (It also doesn't come with features such as mantle that will help improve your fps with multi monitors).

I also edited my original post with some new information :)
