I believe an upgrade every 2 years is about the right pace right? Being that the first gen of every new architecture from nvidia is an entry level gimped one IE: 680/770 based on the GK104.

Haha. I kinda scrapped that idea though, as a wild repressed memory appeared (reference btw). I was washing my friends' mums car once, and I accidentally scratched a part of it, so me being paranoid wondered if it was actually a good idea or not. So I'm stuck with my 60 quid :P

Some more info from another server...

"NVIDIA Maxwell GM107 GPU pictured and detailed"

What does a GK107 (chip for the 750Ti) has to do with GM204? I don't get it... btw that news is from Feb 2014

So with the EVGA step up, can you go from a 780 SC to a 880, or does it have to be a 780TI(and can it be the SC)?

I'm skeptical the 880 will offer any substantial performance increase over a factory OC'd 780 TI. It will also probably have 4 GB of VRAM standard, the 8 GB stuff is nonsense. As a general rule the actual performance is usually less than the rumors, sometimes substantially less. Remember how the pre release rumors and supposed tests had the 4790K as this beast overclocking CPU?

Still, I wouldn't mind hedging my bet.

wait for pascal. 800 series will likely be a sideways upgrade to bring power consumption back down from the rather high 780/780Ti levels.
