Depends for what are you using it? For gaming it would be better to go with i5 4670k and better gpu. If you're video editing etc. it will do great.

I'll go for a third try.

My machine is cobbled together with what I could scrape together over time.

Haf 922 windowed
A stupidly small micro ATX P5G41T-M LX motherboard by Asus
A Pentium Dual Core E6700 3.2Ghz clocked to just shy of 4Ghz
Xigmatek Thor's Hammer CPU heatsink
2x4GB of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
Asus Direct CU HD6850
WD Caviar Blue 500Gb HDD
WD Caviar Green 1Tb HDD
Corsair GS800 PSU 80plus Bronze

It's a box of embarrassment but I am unreasonably pleased about the overclock, given that it's stable for a year.

Painfully aware I need a new MB and CPU combo. I'm getting a donation of a Core 2 Quad this week.

Stuff I try to use;

AMD FX 8350 4.3Ghz, Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Motherboard, 2x Asus HD6850, 8BG Kingston Hyper X RAM, Hyper X 120Gb SSD, Corsair GS800 PSU, Cooler Master HAF922 Case and my branes.

try to find a second hand quad core ( 9xxx) cpu

because that GPU is heavily bottle necked by that dual core

pretty sure G41 boards work with 333fsb cpus (7xxx 8xxx 9xxx)

something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/INTEL-CORE-2-QUAD-Q9550-2-83-GHz-12MB-EU80569PJ073N-SLB8V-E0-SKT-LGA775-TESTED-/321207437627?pt=CPUs&hash=item4ac974893b

Cheers, fella!

Yeah, like I said I'm getting a donation of a Q9xxx Core 2 Quad next week, no idea which model since I was told which when I was drunk but it is a 9xxx one.
Tbh before I got the HD6850 folk on youtube (under a Linsu Tech vid, actually) said that It would bottleneck totally and just not work at all but it seems fine.

It runs everything I have on full, granted I've not got too many top spec games but nothing I've got runs any less than full settings on 1024  at 30fps, even the Rome II benchmark (the game stutters but that's a whole other forum of moans) and everything I do has the CPU at 70% load so it's not "That bad".

Aye there is a bottleneck going on but the gains of the GPU over something pitched at the CPU's level are there. The issue is the only thing I didn't pay for was the CPU as that was a freebie and I put money into a decent case and PSU for farther down the road.

You can still play games at 1080p medium/high settings. When nvidia maxwell arrives in q1 2014(probably) upgrade to something like gtx860.

The 560 and the SSD were my first purchases and I would have recommended a better solid state and a 7950/760 now that I know more. (Build was in November and I had a 1680 monitor at that time)

The PSU is trash too an ultra LSP 750

The above system is fairly nice.

I still haven't gotten around to getting that SSD and processor upgrade.

CPU is a bit overkill in moderation to the graphics card for gaming at least. I'd have to give it a 7/10, Great build!

No one rates mine :(

Ruke's similar to mine but I think he went too far with the GPU. If I was gonna get a 7870 I would have stepped it up to an i5.

(I WANT to upgrade but... but...) Anyways 6/10 good build.

That CPU is in dire need of an upgrade...

A good cpu and 7850 overclock can get you ultra settings at 1080P, so 6/10. Get yourself a better CPU when ya can, preferably if you can get one that pushes 4ghz.
