What happens when you put it on performance mode does it heat up really badly?

it hangs around 80-90 degrees and then cuts out :(

Im going to attempt to clear out all of the dust and if that doesnt work i will order a nice 30 quid zalman cooler. And if that dont work its time to start my gaming rig early...

I have a Toshiba satellite laptop with an i3 370m and i think its overheating a "tad". I have ordered a new cooling stand as my one is on its way out and Im building a gaming rig for christmas

Do you think its overheating? (sorry for the noob question)

thats kinda common on alot of laptops. Summer maybe?

~Dust in the wind~

You have to clean it up at least 1 time every 4-6 months. I just cleaned mine up and it idles at 40C instead of 80C ;)

Clean heatsink and put new thermal paste. And NEVER cheap out on thermal paste on a laptop

Pfft. I bought a NEW 660 TI from EVGA, took the heatsink off, applied some 4-year old Noctua thermal paste I had from my PC build, and dropped my full load temps 7C. Holy crap! The card was only 4-5 months old at that point!

The thing with laptops is they'll try less hard to stay cool.

With a small heatsink and a tiny fan, they'll produce a lot of noise if they wanted to stay at comfortable temps.

Having said that, your idle temps are quite high indeed. Kinda like mine when I posted on here about replacing laptop thermal paste.

Replace the paste and clean your heatsink. You'll love the results.

I have made a make-shift cooling system until i sort it out. It's basically 4 books on top of a fan but having the air come in through 2 gaps and out through 2 others lol its dropped the heat by about 5 degrees though but it will do for now.

I also have a Juice Cube (Battery) connected to the fan so if the laptop overheats and cuts out the fan will keep going for about an hour

My mate irl said that, but the problem is that if i break something i'm screwed as its my work station pretty much i might just do a quick dust and see what happens...

I see that a lot with Laptops. Many people are using them in the wrong way (like having them too much on soft surfaces like couch or bed) or get problems because of dust and dirt. My advice here is to first clean the laptops heat exchange system. All the channels and vents. The usual air canes might me not good enough for that, because they are relativelly fast empty. I have a small air compressor (you can get these at Home Depot i.e. for some dollars) and carefully try to get as much dust out of it as I can when somebody wants me to fix their Laptop heat issues.

What you also could do is get a cooling pad for the Laptop. They are not awesome for every Laptop but help you usually to knock down the temps a good piece.
