MSI GTX 770 vs r9 280x

Hi guys, im looking to be building my first gaming PC in the next few weeks and i am wondering which graphics card is best. I head they perform very similary so is it just down to getting the cheaper one or is one better than the other?

I would get the card with more vram (probably the 280x, unless you get the 4gb 770

you answered your question, get the cheaper one, also that 3gb of vram on the 280x is a plus.

Though I normally vote nvidia i'm going to have to go with the 280x on this one.

280x if they are around the same price, because VRAM and is around the same performance it also comes with 3 free games

Overall, both GPUs are very close in performance, on BF4 the R9 280X pulls ahead, but on some titles like Bioshock Infinite the Nvidia card does perform better.

On the majority of the games, the GTX 770 is 4-5 frames better; if that's worth the £20 to you, or you play games like Bioshock and Batman, where Nvidia pulls a bit ahead, get the 770.

i just ordered my pc and was also deciding between the msi r9 280x and the msi gtx 770, so i decided to get rid of the cpu cooler and get it in a couple of weeks whihc saved me some money there and i ended up getting the msi gtx 770 4gb for £278 from scan.

        My PC Specs:          CPU: i5 4690k(stock speed of 3.50GHz)          GPU: MSI GTX 770 4GB          Storage: WD Blue 1TB HDD and 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD             Ram: 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600MHz           Motherboard: Z97 Asus Maximus VII Ranger          PSU: Corsair RM650 650W          CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO                    Case: Fractal Design R4 Black Pearl with window         OS: Windows 10 Pro
