LTT Forums CPU Overclocking Database!

So decided to play around some with my Althon X2 64... Normally it runs at 2.7Ghz stock and I have it running stable at 2.9Ghz...

However the memory was set for a CPU to NB ratio of 9 x 200 (1800Mhz)... So I decided to check stability on 10x200 (2000 Mhz).. Stable, then went one step up from that 11x200 (2200 Mhz)... Stable

So my question is this.. NB = North Bridge right? What does it do to increase the speed of the NB?

Thanks everyone

**BTW this isn't running any benchmarks at the moment, just surfing the web, playing Warframe or watching videos...**

**Cooling is a Zalman 90mm Air Cooler...**

NB does = Northbridge yes :)

Speeding the NB up helps feed the CPU more information, so it is important to speed that up as well :)

Thanks Meltymoon...

LOL I am not like you guys, I don't have those fancy UEFI bios things...

After July though I am getting a Gigabyte G1 Sniper A88X board... have to tweak the heck out that afterwards.

Core i7 920, 3,8 GHz, 1,256V, chip revision C0. I wish I had one of those D0's, but I was an early adopter :( .

Can go to 4 GHz, but then the temps start going over the 90 C mark in Prime95, and 50+ while idling. That is too hot IMO.

Cooler is Akasa Nero 3, pretty decent for the money.

Able to get i7-3770k to 4.7GHz on 1.270 Vcore.  Cooler is H100 and the temps got to 83C.  Probably high.

Tested for 19 hours but I forgot to open up the Task Manager to show CPU load.

I want to try and get my old Q6600 up and running again. I pretty much just need a harddrive, some random video card and a PSU in order to get it running. It ran at 3.2GHz through all of the time I used it.

Will 2400mhz be a big difference from 1866 ram trying to decide I'm going for a 8gb kit of either corsair or g skill

Gonna grab one this evening

I'm only expecting 4.6-4.7 on air. At 1.325V or less

This is my first time so go easy on me. Earlier I was trying to get it stable for prime95 but a few people said prime is bad for haswell and I should use aida64. Well in AIDA, I can get a much lower voltage than prime. I can probably get it even lower than this.

the reason you were able to run a lower voltage in aida64 is you deselected FPU and Cache.

re-select those two options and re-run the test for a more accurate submission.

prime95 is fine if your on a manual voltage mode.

Still haven't overclocked the cache ratio yet as I'm pretty new to Haswell. Strangely though I don't notice a difference in benches if I down clock it to say 35x vs 40.

955cb at 4.7 with 1.15v and 971cb at 4.8 GHz at 1.215v

First time overclocking.  Took a bit of fiddling to get the Core voltage perfect but it's stable after 12 hours on XTU so I'm happy.  Hopefully it'll stay stable when I game tonight.
