so yesterday i saw slicks test of the g3258 and as i remember it was close to the 4790k in gaming so i am wondering if i should get one ? i currently have a fx8120 on a crappy board and id like to upgrade my board but maybe wanna get g3258 as a placeholder till the next gen of intels comes. would my performance decrease? would you recommend doing that or not and why? do you have other suggestions as i really need to get a new mobo?

Is the next gen intel CPUs also LGA 1150? If not, its not worth it. :P

5th gen Broadwell is still on the LGA1150

but can't say for 6th gen

Is the CPU worth 87$? I personally think so. :D

What kind of budget do you have? If it is around 200$ I would suggest @dragoon20005's build as well. MSI makes great boards so you won't be disappointed in its quality.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing...Getting the G3258, OC it, get broadwell later and put the g3258 on a secondary machine for my bro since he is getting into PC gaming little by little..

I personally recommend it since I will be doing it myself

Figures. Linus and Slick declare the G3258 a beast (don't get me wrong, I'm sure it is) and suddenly everybody's thinking about getting one. I'd still go for the 4790K any day.

well thanks for the suggestions but i was actually thinking about a really beefy mobo now and a beefy cpu later so was planning on getting something like the msi max ac or a top tier asus board

unpark the cores and wait for better intel procs

cores are unparked its not about the cpu performance its about getting a new mobo and not wanting to go am3+ again just so i can keep my 8120

5th gen Broadwell is still on the LGA1150

but can't say for 6th gen

well thanks i did mean the broadwell chips

budget is around 400€ yeah i know i do also like msi quite a bit but asus also does appeal to me very much im not sure yet

I'm not saying they're wrong, I saw the numbers too. Will I get one for myself? No. Will I get one for my dad who wants a snappy PC? Yes.

hmm I really see no need to get the top tier board unless you are doing extreme liquid nitrogen OC which is why they made the MPower and XPower

and no way am I buying the Asus ROG board when I not gonna use all their features, you know that the Asus Sonic Radar Audio which allow you to see the enemy based on sound is banned online?

Any Z97 will do OC but if you want a board which supports multi GPU then the gaming 7 is a good board

see multi gpu is a dfinite yes in the future but also id like a board with poosible waterblocks coming in the future or already having them on like the mpower

That the 4790K has more raw power which makes it better for an ultimate gaming build. You're doing the watercooled glass case with the waterbox aren't you?

And the 4930K has even more?

the Z97 MPower should suit your needs

why not pentium and 780ti :P ?

cause that would just be a joke and way out of the budget. The two 670's I have in my desktop are good enough for now anyway.
