Hey guys, i'm planning on building a PC for gaming. Yup, that's it. I don't care about youtube or streaming at all.

There is no real budget per se, but i'd like to keep cost down as low as possible.

I want the build to be in yellow, because i like yellow :)

Here's what i was thinking so far;

1x MSI 780 lightning (30 extra bucks for better performance? Sure! Might SLI later if i can get my hands on another)

4770k/4670k (Cuz CHEEEEAP from microcenter)

MSI Mpower Z97 Motherboard
1x Samsung 840 Evo 250GB (Will get another later)

Obsidian 450d

This leaves some blank part obviously

Power supply- What size would i need for only a single 780 lightning w/ overclocking headroom, and what brand do you recommend?

Additionally, cooling- Are corsair fans any good? I'd prefer to use them as they would be the same as what are pre installed in the case.

Also, i'm open to suggestions for cases other than the 450d. It needs to have a window so i can view the inside (including my probably horrible cable management),

Thanks guys, all help is welcome

Specs: 4790k | Asus Z-97 Pro Wifi | MX100 512GB SSD | NZXT H440 Plastidipped Black | Dark Rock 3 CPU Cooler | MSI 290x Lightning | EVGA 850 G2 | 3x Noctua Industrial NF-F12's

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

Corsair is overrated, and Anime is ruined by the people who watch it

That's... that's an awesome rig...

2w7h2x5.jpg

For the PSU, you should get a RM850. That's gonna leave some room for overclocking, and also you'll be able to run two GTX 780 Lightning in SLI, no problem!

The case has some included AF140L and 120L fans, which are good.

Also, you really should get a hard drive in... Get something like a Western Digital 1TB Blue, or 2TB Black, or a Seagate Barracuda 2TB.

Corsair fans are loud but perform ok. oh and sabertooth is not worth the money unless you want to pay lots for the looks.. and maybe a Asus Hero board but not formula... and stick to the 4670k for gaming difference in games is not worth the money in any way.

I would also recommend a aftermarket air cooler simply because the stock cooler is loud. but if you keep corsair fans it wont matter.

A decent 550w would be plenty.

Corsair fans are pretty mediocre.

Is a copy of Windows or any peripherals needed? Rough budget? What kind of games are you playing?

Mmm... is this a black/yellow build? so in line with what you already have I'd suggest something like this

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: MSI Z97 MPOWER ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($189.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($79.00 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 780 3GB LIGHTNING Video Card  ($556.81 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 450D ATX Mid Tower Case  ($114.39 @ Mwave)
Total: $1489.39
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

i5 over i7 cause it's cheaper and gaming dont really need hyperthreading

As for the SSD, now I wont stop you from running all your games on SSD, but it wont help you much compare to running it on a HDD, the loading time is faster but not by much (except BF4), and ingame performance is the same, so better get a 7200rpm 1TB HDD instead to keep you games, and only those that you play the most may be keeped in the SSD

around 500W should already be enough for PSU, I bump it up to 600W just for some safe headroom.

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

Any suggestions for a CPU cooler? I could do an H80i or something, but they're mighty expensive

*facepalm*

4670k will be fine for gaming a 550w-650w will be sufficient for that build but if you are actually going to sli your going to want to get a 750w-850w Corsair psus arent all that great id get something from like seasonic, xfx, coolermaster, bitfenix for the fans corsair fans are pretty meh as the people said above.

Edit: also u really dont need an mpower board u could get something alot cheaper and they will still perform the same.

@Norman_the_Owl What resolution are you going to be playing at, if its 1080p, i would suggest getting a 770 instead of a 780

I am gaming at 1080p, and was going with the 780 for increased longevity.

Edit: Also 1440p is pretty sexy :)

Copy of windows is needed, but i'm good with peripherals. I was just gonna hope G2A still had some copies, but i actually think that's over by now :(

Edit: It's still like 24 bucks for windows 8

Corsair fans are not loud people wtf? they have quiet and high performance models and guess what? Quiet are quiet and high performance are... spinning faster, so louder. Even so, i run the 2300 rpm SP120 at 800 rpm, you can't hear it. But in case, god forbids, that i need more rpm, i can go up to 2300. Kewl, huh? 8GB is perfect for gaming, i would wait for the new haswell refresh i5 if you are not going to render/stream as you said, other than that, if you buy a PSU for only one card (550-600w) get a gold one, and the CX series is kinda meh, i own one in a secondary pc. It's ok, but not worthy for a 780. Get a gold one and you are set.

Yep, and the fanless mode on it will be great for you, if you enjoy a near-silent system like i do. It handled 2 GTX 660s no problem, plus a 5 ghz i5 2500k, 8 fans and a fully loaded system :P
