I'm building a new PC soon and can't decide whether to get the Corsair RM750 or SilverStone ST75F-GS.

It'll be a pretty standard build with Crossfire 290 Tri-X cards in a Corsair 350D so 750W will be enough.  I prefer the length of the SilverStone PSU as it's 30mm shorter and I'm not a big fan of the RM Series cables.  However, I don't know much about SilverStone PSUs and I like the Zero RPM fan mod on the RM Series, please help me decide.

The RM series uses chinese secondary caps (made by capxxon) as well as other chinese components. This mostly means that it will either blow up (low chance) or fail much sooner than the silver stone. If you'd allow, i suggest getting the seasonic x750 or coolermaster v850 which have much superior build quality and have silent fans as well.

Thanks for the insight, the RM Series does have a 5 year warranty though.  The Coolermaster PSU has similar flat cables as the RM Series but the Seasonic X750 looks pretty good, I'll keep that one in mind.

I would would go for the Silverstone one, but i would consider the EVGA 750G2

I've never trusted EVGA power supplies, thanks for the alternate options though.

Corsair has my trust a well which is why it's rather hard to choose between them, the RM750 is also a bit cheaper than the SilverStone.

What is your budget?

Seasonic sells their 750w gold PSUs for about $150. If you can afford it, then I would very highly recommend them.

XFX also sells a TS series power supply for $130. As it is essentially a rebranded Seasonic model, it is also a very good PSU for the money.

There isn't really a budget, this is the PC it's for though.  Not sure if I can justify the price difference from the RM750, I'd be looking at AX760 territory then which is a hard to beat power supply.

It may seem expensive, but remember the rule of thumb; you get what you pay for.

Seasonic is the top-of-the-line PSU OEM. This means that the chances of running into issues in regards to power failure, coil whine, and the likes, are absurdly small.

One thing i may add is that the rm750 got a "fail" mark at HardOCP. Granted, it is just one review, but it is something to keep in mind.

I've never trusted EVGA power supplies, thanks for the alternate options though.

Judging a power supply by its branding isn't the way to go, especially when most of them doesn't manufacturer their PSU themselves (one of Silverstone OEMs, FSP, also manufacturer some of EVGA PSUs as well). The aforementioned EVGA Supernova 750 G2 is a superior unit to both the Silverstone unit and RM750 that had been mentioned in respect to design, build quality, and electrical performance, in which I would recommend it over both.

Here's a review done by TPU on both the 750w and 850w variant:

The RM is overrated. I know it's an outcast to say this on this forum but Linus advertises it way too much and people set their minds on thinking it's a good power supply. It's not. There's a lot of better PSUs you can get with the money then Corsair RMs.
