Cutting cables to sleeve them?

I have few cables that need sleeving. They are all bare and ugly, and these fans and cathodes have to be placed outside of the case (res and rad outside of the case).
I know there are tools made for taking off connectors, but I don't want to buy them for just few wires.

 

Would it be okay to just cut off the cable about 1" away from the connector, put the sleeve on it (obviously with 1" extra), pull the sleeve back a bit to expose the wires again, and then simply strip the tips and connect them with insulating tape? In theory it should work just fine, but will this cause any problems with the flow of electricity?

nope. I wouldnt do it. just go buy the depinning tool. they are cheap.

No need to do that, if you take something like a precision flat head screwdriver, you will be able to get the fan connector off, sleeve the cable,then put the fan connector back on. No need for cutting.

Push down just enough were the cable will come out.
